Asses the view that the nuclear family is the dominant family type in modern industrial societies.

For:
- Functionalism: nuclear family is the dominant family type in reinforcing primary socialisation (process of teaching/learning norms and values) and in modern industrial society, the nuclear family provides both male and female role models in which they can influence their children to be good workers later on in society - reproducing the next generation of workforce

Against:
- Feminism: Sue Sharpe notes how there has been a change in status of women meaning that they are no longer encourage to raise a family, but focus more on their own career. (delaying marriage, meaning the nuclear family is not dominant as it is not seen as important as it was during the 1970s).
- Women are focusing on their personal choice (divorcing, leaving unhappy relationships) which makes the nuclear family not as dominant as women are more likely to opt out if they want to (focusing on their own decisions rather than remaining in abusive relationships/relationships they no longer want to be in)

I would add more but I have class! try that website that @riri9 added:
