I want to do an English degree of some kind at university (probably Lit) - will this experience other than my exam results be enough extra-curricular stuff?

    - Editor and writer for school magazine
    - Work experience at a publishers
    - 1 week creative writing course
    - 10 week script writing course

Yes? No? What could I add to that?

TBH English lit is one of those subjects where EC's would probably matter slightly less so, as such you don't need to OD on them . What you have sounds fine. Debating or something might add a bit but not much for literature. I would bone up on books now: develop your analysis.

    Thanks.

    To the books I go!

My friend said you don't need to do any reading outside the compulsory A level texts. I raised my eyebrows and said that wouldn't show much commitment to literature and she looked back at me in an equally condescending way, saying that universities don't care.

If you're doing lit they do!

She also said that if I wanted to do Lit and creative writing I would not need a portfolio of work.

But she's SO stubborn and her opinions are so firm that there's no way of shifting them even when she's being arse-headed.
