Hey guys,
This is a bit of a weird one, but I’ve entered an essay competition and with the statement I originally decided to argue on side, but as I was writing this side, I found I was beginning to agree with the other side and I keep doing this over and over again, so now I’m lost 😅.
Does anybody have any advice or ideas for what to do when something like this happens?
(I know its a bit confusing, but thanks for any replies)

If you found you were beginning to agree with the other side more, maybe that should be the argument you defend instead? It really depends on the subject field and the style/wording of the question. Regardless of which side you argue, you’ll need to refer to the other side. But if the question is quite open ended, it may be worth arguing both to an extent and questioning both arguments and saying in what conditions which argument is stronger than the other. So you could effectively argue both are right depending on the context and this could be part of your evaluation/conclusion. But it depends what your arguments are to begin with, and what the question actually is.
