One week to go until the UCAS 2020 application deadline.

With one more week to go before the official UCAS application deadline for those wishing to start an undergraduate degree in 2020, we thought it was important to highlight some important info for those still getting round to submitting their applications.

Personal statement :cyber:
If you’re still refining your personal statement make sure you have reflected on your key experiences and strengths relevant to the course you’re applying to. If you’re finding it hard to write it’s often easier to speak to a family member or teacher - talk them through your content ideas and use them as a fresh pair of eyes to check spelling, grammar and structure.

References :five:
If you haven’t already, you need to arrange for your teacher or someone outside of your family who knows you the most to provide you with a reference about your suitability for the course. Visit this UCAS page to see who else is eligible to write a reference for you, and helpful tips for completing a reference.

Extra:hmmmm:
If you have yet to receive any offers or are concerned about your choices you can add an extra choice to your application between the 25 February and 4 July, ahead of Clearing. You will have the chance to provide a new personal statement if it is a completely different course to your other choices. Find more about Extra on this UCAS page.

Deadlines :flute:
It can be difficult to keep track of all the different UCAS deadlines alongside coursework and exams, so it’s good to keep reminding yourself to check the application timeline. Remember, when you receive your last decision you will have a deadline to pick your firm choice.

Interviews and selection processes :shakehand:
If you have an interview scheduled, find threads with hints and tips from other students who may have already completed their interview. You can find more information about how to prepare for selection events on the university’s course pages under the entry requirements section. There are even support sessions to prepare you for our Health and Social Care selection events.

Admissions :h:
If you have any questions for the university regarding your application, admissions criteria or selection event it is best to contact the Admissions team directly on [email protected]

From everyone at Sheffield Hallam, we want to wish you all the best with your university applications :tee:

Will SHU accept UCAS applications without a reference if it helps applicants meet the deadline?

Will SHU accept UCAS applications without a reference if it helps applicants meet the deadline?

Hi @PQ

I'm pleased to hear you're considering applying to Hallam, what course are you interested in?

If you are unable to provide a reference for your UCAS application for whatever reason, you will have to get confirmation from the universities you are applying to that they have allowed you to do this and that your application will still be considered.

If you're applying through your school or college, you'll need to give your tutor adequate time before the deadline (15th Jan, 6pm) to complete the reference section and approve your application before they send it off to UCAS - usually they will give you an internal deadline for this.

If you are applying individually, you can request an alternative referee to complete the reference section in UCAS Apply. If you originally selected for a school or college to write your reference, you'll first need to contact UCAS to ask them to reset your details.

You can find some more useful information about UCAS references here.

If in doubt, call UCAS :call: Good luck with your application!

Hello @PQ
After the deadline, we cannot be sure that there will be spaces on all of our courses. Some of our courses especially our health courses are more competitive for places, so to ensure equal consideration for our courses, it is best to submit your application by the 15th January Deadline.

As and when a course is closed to applications this information will be added online to the course page on our website, to inform prospective students that the course is no longer accepting applications.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Thank you
Rachel

Hi @PQ

I'm pleased to hear you're considering you're applying to Hallam, what course are you interested in?

If you are unable to provide a reference for your UCAS application for whatever reason, you will have to get confirmation from the universities you are applying to that they have allowed you to do this and that your application will still be considered. Therefore I advise securing a reference.

If you're applying through your school or college, you'll need to give your tutor adequate time before the deadline (15th Jan, 6pm) to complete the reference section and approve your application before they send it off to UCAS - usually they will give you an internal deadline for this. You can check your school/college has submitted your application by checking your welcome page in UCAS Track to see if it confirms that your application has been sent off.

If you are applying individually, you can request an alternative referee to complete the reference section in UCAS Apply. If you originally selected for a school or college to write your reference, you'll first need to contact UCAS to ask them to reset your details.

Hi again @PQ,

You would have to contact our admissions team outlining what course you are applying to and they will be able to tell you if they will still consider your application.

You can contact them on [email protected] or 0114 225 4251.

@PQ - Well at least their responses gave me a chuckle if nothing else
