Red hair and Royalty

The line goes way back . . .

Joseph was the favourite son of Jacob, son of Isaac. Jacob was the non-hairy twin of Esau.who was "red, all over like an hairy garment" (see Genesis 25:25)

David Rohl cites evidence that Joseph had red hair.

The gene for red hair is recessive meaning that Rachel was either a redhead or a carrier of the gene herself, maybe the other partners were not. Rachel is described as "beautiful" which can also be translated as fair.

The word for "red" describing Esau's hair is translated "ruddy" describing (King) David, as well as other descriptors of his appearance so it seems he was a redhead too, and the progenitor of the royal line which can be traced over to Britain particularly. The Hebrew word is admoni, same root as Adam, showing red (red of blood or possibly red of the earth he was from?)
1 Samuel 16v12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

Between 2% and 6% of northwestern Europeans have red hair, compared with an average of around 0.6% of the world’s population as a whole. In the British Isles the numbers are much higher. In Scotland around 13% of the population have red hair, but over 30% are unknowing carriers of the redhead gene. In Ireland about 10% have red hair, but as many as 46% are carriers. Scottish and Irish emigration have made the USA the home of the largest population of redheads in the world at between 6 million and 18 million, with many millions more carrying the gene variants."

No place on Earth is more associated with red hair than Britain. In fact many of its most striking historical figures have possessed the fiery hue, including Elizabeth I, Oliver Cromwell, Boudicca and Winston Churchill." - source

"By the time of the Elizabeth generation, the Tudor hair color became more than just a sign of beauty or appearance. It was viewed as proof of legitimate Tudor decent. . . . Same applies to the Scottish monarchs." - source
