Hey there,

I'm studying AS levels at the moment and I hope to achieve AAAA or AAAB in Maths, Chemistry, History, Biology respectively. And then get AAA/AAB in A levels and get to a good uni.

GCSE's 1 A*, 12 As, 1 B (half course in ICT  )
Extra Curricular: I'm a volunteer for the Red Cross and look to do more sports.
Work Experience: None yet.

But the main thing I want to ask is, what work experience can I secure now? I live in the countryside with access to a city but bear in mind I can't do anything huge yet if you get me.

Anywho work any work experience in any bank be a bonus at this stage? Orrr....?

Help?

Thanks in advance.
Which city?

And the more work experience the better irrespective of what career you're interested in.

AFAIK you'll only be able to get retail banking work experience there, and as many will tell you retail banking is a far cry from IB.

Any work experience is better than none though.

Hey. I was just wondering realistically if I had any chance of getting into investment banking.

A-levels AAB (Maths, Economics and History respectively)
In my final year and will graduate with a 2:1 from Birmingham.
No internship.

If the answer is no not a chance then fine. If the answer is possibly but with further qualifications or experience (e.g masters or internship) then what would you guys recommend. Thanks in advance.
My housemate got 4As at A level and is on course for a 1st in mathematics and every single investment banking application he made was rejected although he did drop out a imperial before coming to Birmingham so I'm guessing that was a big factor or is it the fact that he, like myself is not at the top tier of universities.

Is it still possible to get an internship at this time. I thought the deadline for most had past?

Yup. If you were serious about IB you would've been applying in September. As it is, you're pretty much ******.

Would getting on a masters course and then applying for an internship to start after the masters make much of a difference?

You couldn't do a summer internship at that stage (realistically). Your only chance would be a Spring Week, but even then I thought most students were penultimate year (or before). As always, networking can bend the rules a bit, if you know what you're doing.

Which subjects do you study? Cambridge will give you a strong edge in terms of getting interviews.

Yes, that's the degree, but not the subjects...

BrightGirl, anything with Maths/Physics in it from Cambridge would leave most doors in Banking open to you, Trading springs to mind, but most divisions are in reach.

By no means necessary, but it will certainly look good on your CV.
