Just had my interview for a condensed matter theory PhD at Cambridge. How important is the interview and are all applicants invited for one? Also how long after the interview do we get our decisions?

I'm not actually sure the relative ratio of apps to interviews, but I was interviewed last Wednesday. I was asked how long I could wait considering my other applications, and I said that about two weeks would be optimal. I might hypothesise that this is indicative that they consider all (more or less) promising applications together to make a final decision, so I guess that you'll be considered in the same bin.

Best of luck, and I hope to see you there.

Cheers,

Jack

Hey, could you guys describe what the interview is like, ideally for CMT? I'm thinking of applying later this year.
