so i got invited to 2 applicant days, but i cant afford to get there. does that matter, or do you have to go to one?

It is optional as long as it does not relate to an interview or anything that would affect their decision toward your application.

Genrally, applicant days give you a general idea about the campus, accomodation, teaching styles and meet the current students. (It may help you decided your firms and insurance choices if yoi do not have one in mind already.)

Personally I think it is important that you like the campus and environment that you will be staying another 3-4 years. Once again an applicant day is totally optional.

In addition to the previous reply it is worth double checking with the universities if they can offer any financial assistance to help pay for the cost of travel to attend an applicants day. Many are starting to do this as part of a wider participation programme.
