D1 Explain what is meant by ‘safeguarding’.

The explanation of safeguarding must:

•show accurate understanding of the meaning of safeguarding

•relate safeguarding to the context of health and social care.

D2 Summarise current legislation in relation to safeguarding.

Provide a summary of current legislation in relation to safeguarding such as:

•Health and Social Care Act 2012

•Care Act 2014

•other relevant legislation.

D3 Describe the relationship between legislation, policy and procedure. The description must provide evidence of understanding of the relationship between legislation, policy and procedure

D4 Identify policies and procedures in relation to safeguarding.

Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to safeguarding must be shown.

Policies and procedures identified must be shown as relevant in the context of safeguarding and not generic to health and social care.



C1 Create a report describing what each type of abuse is. You must describe signs, symptoms. Behaviours and indicators for each types of abuse. Ensure you describe each type of abuse. Include references.

C2Describe the lines of reporting and responsibility in relation to safeguarding protection and welfare. This should include the 4 R’s; lines of reporting, and whistleblowing and links to relevant legislation.

C3 Demonstrate your knowledge with examples however these must be referenced in the text and in the reference list at the end.

B1 Finally add to the report which explains factors which contribute to an individual being vulnerable to harm or abuse.

These factors must include;

Age, mental health, physical health, substance misuse, disability, cognitive impairment, looked-after children, youth offenders, domestic violence, isolation, internet, social media.

Demonstrate your knowledge with examples however these must be referenced in the text and in the reference list at the end.

B2 Describe how the health and social care practitioner can take steps to safeguard themselves. Include examples within your discussion. Ensure you discuss:

•Following policies and procedures

•Record keeping

•Maintain duty of care

•Use of PPE

•Technology and when to use it

•Maintain confidentiality



•B3 Explain the role of safeguarding. A detailed explanation of the role of safeguarding must demonstrate an analytical approach to the safety, needs and protection of individuals. Ensure you discuss:

•Central to high-quality health and social care service provision

•Protection of people’s health

•Well-being and human rights

•Freedom of harm and abuse



A1 Explain the boundaries of confidentiality in relation to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of individuals.

The boundaries of confidentiality must be explained in depth to show:

Understanding of the boundaries of confidentiality

The application of the boundaries of confidentiality to safeguarding, protection and welfare

Consider:

•Duty of candor

•Breaching confidentiality
