I don’t know what’s wrong with me... Basically just want to go to the kitchen and cook. But from my room I can hear lots of my flatmates in the kitchen laughing and I’m just like frozen to my room... I just can’t bring myself to go in there and join everyone, I just want to cook! I’m really shy, I guess I’m just anxious because they’re all laughing and already immersed in a conversation I’m not part of... and if I go in I’ll just be standing by the oven awkwardly just cooking as they’re all talking. Where will I look? What can I say? I just feel so safe in my room and going to the kitchen with lots of people terrifies me for some reason. They all sound like they’re so happy and talking loudly, they haven’t seen me all day and I feel like I’ll be gatecrashing the conversation or something... Ig there’s just one person I. There I’m fine. I can talk comfortably to one person, it’s nice. But a group of people? I feel so uncomfortable... everyone talking all together, I never know how to join in. Especially if the conversation goes somewhere I have no idea about. I like talking to just one person in the room, not a whole group where I just feel out of place and faded into the background.

Just go in and get on with what you want to do. You aren't expected to join a conversation that's in progress (and you obviously wouldn't get the context) unless they show that they want you to. Once you're in the kitchen you'll be fine, you just need to push yourself to go in there.

If you're having so much trouble (as you've described in your multiple threads), maybe you should talk to your student support about social anxiety, to get strategies to overcome it.
