so my uni doesn’t really take attendance or keep a record but I was wondering if I should inform them before hand. It’s only a week. Bearing in mind I can catch up on stuff that I miss. What would your advice be?

Double check your student regulations to make sure you won't get penalised for being absent. I always email lecturers if I know I will be absent due to illness or other unavoidable circumstances (just out of courtesy/politeness). If you're just going on holiday for a week, then maybe it's best that you don't elaborate on the reason for your absence.

Appreciate the response. I think I’ll definitely email them to let them know.

I know people who have done this and didn't get caught but I personally wouldn't risk it. If you have a valid reason for needing to be off, it's probably worth telling them in advance.

My uni takes attendance and a couple of my friends have been off for a week, they won't get penalised for it but if any prospective employers ask for a reference their attendance may be brought into it. You do get a warning though if your attendance falls below 75% or something.
