I got invited for the interview at Oxford for the Integrated Immunology course. Does anyone got any tips on how and what to prepare? Also how does the interview process look like?
Hello Stellarivoy, I am a medical graduate from Sudan So professor Austyn firstly asked me about why did I study Medicine. Aaah he also asked me about why I joined the course and what are my career plans. Then he moved me to Dr. Ross Sadler and he asked me about basic immunological concepts like: the cascade of events that happen when you injure yourself, what happens in the lymph node, types of T cell and subclasses of T helpers, cytokines secreted by cells, also some genes and what they encode in the immune cells.. he also mentioned SCID and the defect behind but I stumbled on that and I told him I had forgotten it but made my guess to answer it anyway.. Lastly Ms Athena asked me about my statement of purpose and the things I mentioned there like Rheumatoid Arthritis from immunological point of view, how cancer cells evade immune response and as I mentioned activating some immune check point she asked me about to mention them. Lastly they discussed funding resources. In conclusion I think they are going to ask every candidate to demonstrate background knowledge, and then questions that are specific to the SOP. They also tend to form questions actually from my own answers, so every single word you mention really counts. I stumbled on approximately 2 questions, I still got an offer thank God! Most importantly, my interview was pretty informal as they were really welcoming and nice, and told me to ask any questions that I might have at any time. I already love them and I hope Oxford would offer me a scholarship. Best of luck
Thanks Olaimad, for the super-detailed and handy interview experience! I am Bonnie, a medical graduate from Taiwan, and am planning to give the “part-time MSc Integrated Immunology” this year a last-minute try.
After going through the Course content, I found that taught themes in unit 1 and 2 are accessible asynchronously, under the supervision of Course Director(Professor Jon Austyn, if I am right). However, there will be a “desk-based remote project” in the third unit under project supervisor.
Since this online program is new for autumn 2024, I sincerely hope that I can get some advice from you guys taking full-time course. I wonder : 1. Were you given the chance to pick the topic or lab or supervisor that you’re interested in? 2.If yes, who’s team did you join and how was it? Or can anyone else provide information/ recommendations about labs in Nuffield? 3. Should we mention a specific lab or aspect of our interest in the Statement of purpose? 4. How’s your career like after completing the MSc course? I planned to take PLAB1 and 2 while studying, but am not sure about bridging to FY1/2 or the FY2 alone program. Great thanks!
