Well I went to Gloucestershire University 10 years ago. The area is really nice countryside. I'm from London so I was surprised I actually liked and loved the countryside, having grown up in the city.
I do not know about the geography course, as I did a sports course. Do you know which campus you are at? I am guessing you are at park campus? The nightlife is nice, the student nights are Mondays and Wednesday (Well wednesdays were more the sports guys and monday was the "global" ones with the student clubs when I was there)
The area where the campus is located (3 in Cheltenham and 1 in Gloucester). When I was there, Gloucester town was not really "the best" area (there was alot of "dodgy things" going on around the Gloucester bus and train station, which was near one of the Gloucester campus. But Cheltenham, is really nice, a bit expensive. There is always good jobs going on esp during gold cup week and all my uni friends, we were based at Gloucester campus but all moved to Cheltenham for year 2 and 3 because we didn't like Gloucester (had to travel from Chelts to Glos campus tho).
All of the exams for every course is based at Park campus (or it was when I was there 10 years ago, no idea if thats still the case so I cannot give you the update on that as I am basing on what I know when I was there).
But Gloucestershire Uni isn't one of the top and my sports degree was not one of the top uni for it (the sports degree, good uni were Brunel, Loughborough). I know at the jobs I've had since I've left, noone had heard of Gloucestershire University at all, even tho they've all heard of the course from other universities. So I do not think it is "well known" university because its not great in the league table, but I have moved back home and work in London since finishing uni.
But you need to choose what you like and feel is right for you
