I applied for york st John and recieved an unconditional offer, however, I kind of wish I aimed higher and aimed for a Russel group uni. Should I take a gap year and re-apply, or am I just being silly?

If that’s where you think you want to go, then you can accept the offer. Then if you work for your A Levels and do really well, you can always choose to take a gap year then. I’m not sure how clearing works if you’ve accepted an unconditional offer, but you might be able to find something through that as well alternatively, though it would be a fast turnaround after results

I say take the gap year and take some relevant work experience to appear more passionate and experienced for the subject or complete a college qualification because it can get you more UCAS points

Cool - loads of good reasons to take a gap year should you want to. You could also look at clearing and adjustment - there are likely to be plenty of places.
