People say this all the time. It's not true.

If you were really looking for a job you would go out everyday. Hand your CV into every single shop in your town, cold call hotels, resturants, call-centres, offices asking if they need staff. You'd be searching everysingle jobsite on the internet. Are you doing those things? Or have you looked around, maybe handed in a couple of CVs and left it?

You can find a job, even if it's only temp, even if it's in Maccy D's because you can still be looking for a better one whilst you are working.
Tell me what town you live in and I bet you a blow job I could find a job there within a day.

This sounds like a win-win situation for me, Bubble

Bet you can't find me one in L'pool. I've been looking for the last 2 months for a temping job until uni in October. Preferably I want a job I can come back to in holidays, though. I can't work in term time (Oxford won't let me).

OP, I feel your pain.

Don't forget OP, the credit crunch is going on at the moment. My work is having to let so many people go at the moment.

My housemate has been for 2 interviews and both times has been told they'd love to hire her but can't afford to do so at the minute.

I'm sure it's nothing to do with you. How does your CV look? Maybe go to a connexions or something and ask how to make it better? To make sure it really stands out?

Good luck, I'm sure something will come along soon.

That is so true. My mum was going to get me a job in the mailroom as an administrative assistant, but she felt as though she just couldn't, after having sacked 40 people one morning (it was on the radio and everything.) Shucks to her conscience, but I suppose they did have families...

It's just awful, because I have a really good CV (good grades, a year's experience in an administrative position [volunteering] and I temped for ASDA at Christmas a couple of years ago).

Well if you don't want the advice of someone who has been a chef for the last year, managed a resturant for two before that and has been in catering since they were 14 don't take it.... but who's got a job here and who hasn't :p:

That's a good one!!!

Today I borrowed some money of a couple of mates, and forced people who owed me money to cough up, and now ive got around £400 cash lying around. Im literally swimming around in it.

Im not upset anymore, this is literally the happiest day of my life. but thanks for the advice everyone. ¡Yo lo aprecio!

I am in the same boat as everyone! I was made redundant from my job at the begining of Oct as the company could no longer support my employment. I have a 2.1 BSc Forensic and Analytical Science degree and I cant find a job in this field.

I am even doing some voluntary work as a teaching assistant in a primary school in the hope that i might be able to get a position doing this. All the jobs I have applied for I have been unsuccessful and Ive even sent my CV online to be checked and it still hasnt helped.

I have always worked from being 14years old and even whilst i studied. I have written to the local mp and he tells me that there is 10's of 1000's of jobs available. But i dont want to be stuck in a job where the pay is crap, the hours are crap and I have to commute miles and miles every day.

I am now considering applying for benefits as I have car finance to pay for as well as bills. I have moved back in with my parents but I cant rely on them to pay my bills for me.

Is it me or has this country gone mad? Why are there no jobs for people that are coming out of studying and is there any hope for the future generations?

That's good news, but that doesn't mean you can stop looking for jobs now. You aren't gonna be swimming around in it for much longer when Christmas is coming up. Keep searching, this week is probably the last week for hiring Xmas temps, after that most places should be filled.

If that's unsuccessful, ask yourself why? Do you have any retail experience? If not, it may be a good time to work in a charity shop for a few months for next to no pay. You get experience, references, and it shows something about your personality - willing to work for something other than money.

Are you 18 or 19 by any chance? If so, this might help keep you afloat for a bit - http://www.servelegal.co.uk You act as a mystery shopper at supermarkets, bookies, etc and check whether they ask for ID. The alcohol/bet/whatever is paid for, you get to keep the alcohol/bet (and your winnings if you win), travel is paid for, and you get paid £4-6 per trip depending on what the trip is.

May not sound much, but when you're given about 10 trips to supermarkets/bookies to do in a week, it adds up. Currently I have 15 large bottles of beer in the fridge, £100 in my bank (and I am waiting for them to pay me even more) and recently won £20 on a free bet I made. I have done about 40 trips in the past 3 months. Guess I'm kind of lucky, they have found me loads of jobs, but it's worth a shot?
