Hello, I need to apply for my Maintenance Loan but I'm worried my parents' income is going to affect it. They earn well above the average salary but are not willing to financially support me when I head off to university as they cannot afford it (paying off mortgage etc.). I don't want to be disadvantaged when their income is completely out of my control. Can I temporarily move out and use that as my household income? My own income is obviously much lower as I'm on a gap-year and work part-time so that way I would get the maximum loan.

No, the rules for being classed as an independent student mean you can't just move out to claim you are one. You would need to demonstrate you've supported yourself for at least 3 years before the course started, in the context of using not living at home as justification for it (they would require your P60/P45 forms from all jobs you've had, plus any documentation confirming periods of being on e.g. jobseekers allowance etc).
