I had a telephone interview with British Gas over the phone a couple of months ago, it last's on adverage 45 minutes in my opinion it was rather long over the telephone.
I had to answer a tonne of questions the usual...
Why do you think you should be chosen over anyone else to work for British Gas?
What skills do you have that you can bring to our company?
blah blah blah
Then they ask you some competency based questions, such as
Can you explain the last time that you have given excellent customer service?
How did you know the customer was happy with the service they received, etc?
blah blah blah
Then they go on to reading out a passage to you, which you have to memorise as much as possible.
Don't worry it don't sound as bad as what you read.
Make sure you have a pen an paper on hand as you will need to write what she is saying in shorthand down so you can repeat it all back to her/him.
Good Luck With The Interview!

hey thanks that was really useful, was this for summer internship? or just full time job?

and did ya get the job? Thanks for ur post!

Sanna
Hello Sanna, It was for a part time job.

If you pass the telephone interview the interviewer will invite you to come in to the call centre and have a face to face interview as well as participate in role play (scenarios). It takes around 3 hours :frown:

I was successful with my telephone interview however once I attended the face to face interview I was told I was late. The lady over the telephone must have told them the wrong time. :s-smilie: So It made me look as I was very bad at time-keeping not the best first impressions...Obviously because of that I didn't get the job because of a lack of communication within the company.

Its all changed now, the telephone interview takes around 20 minutes or so and the assessment day consists of a presentation, interview then roleplay (phoning up a manager trying to sell them things). You've obviously already had your interview etc, did you get the job?

Hi everyone!

Got through the numerical and verbal reasoning and have logged in to pick a time for the phone interview and there were 3 choices .... all of them in 4 weeks time! Is this normal? They recruit as they go along so it seems like a lot can change in a month so it might be the case that by the time I actually get to the AC (hopefully, assuming everything goes ok) the job might be gone!

This is btw for a Centrica Summer Internship.

Any help/advice/reassurance will be much appreciated:smile:

Hi there!

You are literally a day late, had mine yesterday. Thanks so much for offering though! Not sure how it went, I never had a phone interview before so it was a completely new experience for me. I will let you know whether I got through once I find out. When is your AC out of interest? And what have you applied for?

Ah damn, if only I'd logged on a day earlier. No problem though, willing to help out my fellow KCL students!

My assessment centre's next Friday, for the General Management summer placement. Am a little bit nervous but I guess probability-wise at this stage I have a decent chance of getting it. Would be awesome.

How about you? What did you apply for? Best of luck btw, hope you get some good news!

I applied for exactly the same as you  I was rejected this morning so I guess it does not matter anyway; best of luck on Friday, fingers crossed!

They asked the usual questions, nothing out of the ordinary. Why you want to work there, where you see yourself in 5 years time, what can you tell them about Centrica etc. They then asked three competency questions:

- tell them about a time when you had to solve a complex problem
- tell them about good customer service

and I cannot remember the third one. The most important thing is that your answers cannot have anything to do with the answers you gave them on your application, so make sure you remember what you wrote there.

Unfortunately cannot help on the answers part, as I thought I did everything correctly, but clearly that was not good enough. I am hugely disappointed, but life goes on I guess.

Best of luck!
