How can lipids and proteins be used in aerobic respiration???
How can lipids and proteins be used in aerobic respiration???
Lipids are broken down to fatty acids and glycerol. Fatty acids are broken down to 2-carbon acetyl coA units in the mitochondria, via Beta-oxidation. Acetyl coA enters the Krebs cycle and is used to make ATP.
Amino acids first have their amine group removed (deamination). The rest of the chain (Keto acid) can be used to generate pyruvate, acetate and the intermediates of the Kreb's cycle.
