How competitive is it to get a part time job for university? I'd like to apply for accommodation as soon as I accept an offer but I won't be receiving any money from parents. Is it wise to apply for studios or even en-suite accommodation if I'm not sure I'd be able to get a job? I would however be getting bursaries because of where I live and the fact my mother is a single parent.

id suggest sitting down and working out how much you have, and will be getting from sfe/bursaries etc, before making any final decisions. Baring in mind youd also need textbooks, food, toiletries etc.

It can be hard to get a job, theres hundereds of new people in a new place all applying at the same time, but its not impossible, especially if you work in retail(or similar customer service roles) because when you go home for summer you can always work for a more local store etc and save up a bit more.
