I'm at Pembroke, so in terms of facilities:

Pool table, table tennis, tennis courts (I think!)

Gym

Reputation for good food (unless it says "formal", it's what we eat in the canteen every lunch/dinner!)

Library open 8am-midnight

Computer room with 24/7 access

5-10 minutes from the centre

Just to add to this, the gym is 24 hours and on-site. And also Pembroke has squash courts at its pitches.

I didn't know that! Mind you, I never did get past the induction... :p:

(Also, your last.fm "" in your sig appears to be broken - it won't open for me.)

I turned up late for the induction and only caught the last minute or two but they still activated my card. :h:

You're right. It appears to be a last.fm image hosting issue (i.e. not something I can do anything about).

Really? My DoS* will be happy. :p:

*Nick McBride. I'm sure you'll have heard of him from "Letters to a Law Student"...

Awesome - I've not yet read it but it's on my ever-growing wishlist on Amazon :yep:

Pembroke was one of the ones I'd been considering anyway (for a number of reasons, some more important than others ) but what you said has tipped the balance a little further.
Odd question; but were you not at Pembroke/your College where would you rather be

I know everyone says "Jesus" (or at least that's what the Tsr guide for Jesus says iirc) but I'm not too sure why, and isn't there another college which people thought might've been a good choice were they not to pick their own?

If I wasn't at Christ's, I think I'd either pick Gonville and Caius or Pembroke. I was going to pick Caius originally actually but changed my mind. Mainly because both have a good location and, basically, Caius is friendly even if it does have bad food while Pembroke has a nice feel even if it seems a bit too expensive and posh...
The Caius food is bad? Whilst it does sound expensive, the idea of 36 compulsory hall dinners per term sounds nice in that it brings the College community together and allows you to catch up with your amigos over food.
Is Pembroke really posh though? I thought that was one of the more friendly ones with Clare and Emma...
And I'm sure I read somewhere that it offers the cheapest accommodation too..

ty for thoughts though. Caius, Emma and Pembroke are the three I have been considering for some time.

Caius food is renowned for being terrible (although we Christies think it might be better than ours). The problem with the 36 compulsory dinners is that if you want to eat somewhere else/don't like the food, you still pay for them.

Pembroke's food is expensive. Their laundry's also expensive (I spent 15 minutes outside their laundry room once with little to do.). As for posh, it was more the feeling - I stayed there for a few nights and it was OK but parts of it felt posh to me. People have differing feelings about places

I'd probably say Emmanuel, as I almost applied there.

I can see why it might seem posh from the outside (from the buildings and grounds), but it really isn't. :nah:
Caught on a toss up between King's and Homerton for Physical Natural Sciences. I'm a reapplicant, King's plays to my strengths at random tests, but Homerton is just huge and takes almost twice as many students (Note: I know that they take a good portion of these from the pool themselves, but I'd hope not to get pooled). However, getting pooled from Homerton is pretty much a dead end, but King's has hope of being picked up by another college. (I (hope) to meet auto-pooling criteria).

What can people advise? Is there a college I've overlooked? I don't really fancy going for one of the 'physics' colleges again (ie Corpus, Tithall ) but I'm unsure whether King's is classed as one of these.

Mmm. I wouldn't have said it's posh, but even if that were true, falling from the mantelpiece at a bop will quickly bring you crashing back down to earth when you land among the (literally!) "great unwashed". :p:

Indeed, though I never fell. :h: On the other hand, it seems that they've got a lot stricter with pennying at Formal.
what's pennying? :s

I did post this (on this page) but I was just wondering what your opinion on my predicament is. See below. Thanks!

I have a personal bias favouring the more central and older colleges so I would go for King's.
Pembroke prospectus has arrived. It looks fantastic.

Iknowrite

When I ordered mine it came virtually the next day ^^
I was so impressed I re-ordered one for a friend. I wonder what he'll think ¦D

It's great in that they provide info on your specific subject too in a handout in the prospectus. Pembroke and Jesus are the only colleges I've found that mail you a prospectus (most just have a pdf online) and I've been very impressed with the quality of Pembroke and the speed of Delivery. Jesus was good too but it took far too long to arrive.

It's a great feeling getting the prospectus waiting for you when you come hone though.

Ah, agreed! I ordered it on Thursday night and by the time I'd come back from my run this morning it'd arrived. What subject are you looking at? Just ordered Jesus' prospectus; Queens' also mail you paper ones if you're interested.
