Pembroke, from a fellow PS Helper. :h:

I've got a lot of friends at Pembroke who do love it a lot. Same with Sidney (and I've been to Sidney quite a few times). Emma my parents went to and it is just a lovely college, then Tortious suggested Queens which also looks fab! Too hard to choose!

Currently deciding between Jesus and Pembroke for history. I want a college which is friendly and unpretentious, without a really excessive focus on academics. Any advice?

Wrong university

It's all the same university-wide to be honest, the teaching isn't delivered by the college. I know some colleges have incentives for academics like people who get firsts in their first year are given much better accommodation, but I'm not so keen on that, I think it encourages one-upmanship.
I need help ! x)

I'm applying for NatSci and would like quite a "cheap" college (not quite sure if there is a great change of cost between each college), would be preferable to have good chances of getting funding, good theatre club would be nice too  I'm not hugely bothered about distance, although the nearest the better ! ^^
Ok, I think I have a shortlist, so I'd like to tell you the criteria I've made up along the way and see what you guys come up with.

Fairly large
Most/All accommodation on site
Central/fairly central
At the same time, not too far from the Maths Centre, so probably on the west side of town
Nice buildings!
On the river would be nice but not essential
Food isn't awful

If anyone could come up with some suggestions based on that it would really help, so I know I'm on the right track

Clare has decent accommodation, the first year rooms are very near to the Law Faculty though you'll be further away in later years. Self-catering facilities are a bit hit and miss - no ovens. Food has changed since I was there as they got a new head chef. The library is pretty good, they have a separate Law library which I assume is a bit different from most colleges.

All colleges will have a decent number of law students and loads of NatScis, so you don't need to worry about "reputation" for a particular subject. Law and biochem are two rather disparate subjects though - deciding between those is probably a more important decision than choosing a college!

Agreed, though I have work experience sorted for both and my A levels also cater for both, so we'll see how things play out

Looking at your criteria, John's was the one that jumped out at me as fitting them the most.

Well that's good to hear! Turns out it's the same college as my 1960s-Blue rowing coach went to

Hey! I'm applying for the Natural sciences course for the 2014/2015 year. Does anyone know which college to apply to for the best chances of getting in or how to find out?

This is the list of entry requirements for Cambridge. I think that it is important to know which aspect you are strong at. If you are good at tests, you might as well sit for it just in case your interview doesn't go too well.
That's what I personally think because I'm applying for Physcal NatSci for 2014/2015 too!
MML applicant here trying to make a last-minute decision between Pembroke and Selwyn. I really am torn between the two. On the one hand, I really like Pembroke because of its architecture, library, size, plus it seems like quite a nice, friendly college. On the other hand, Selwyn has been starting to appeal to me a lot over the past couple of days...the gardens, architecture, proximity to Sidgwick Site, atmosphere... Could anyone help me out?

If they really are so similar, I'd be inclined to toss a coin - not to make the decision, but because when it's in the air you'll know what you really want. [noparse] :p:

I was at Pembroke and absolutely loved it, but I think Selwyn's a nice college too. Proximity to the Sidgwick Site isn't that much of a bonus, since Pembroke is a ten-minute walk (and my friends and I often went to lunch at Selwyn anyway). Selwyn's food is OK, but not as good as Pembroke's. :nah:

Can you recommend me any college that's similar to St John's?
I love their architecture, size, location etc. but they have ridiculous admission criteria for my course.

What course are you applying for? I've applied to St John's too and I don't know how I've missed the fact it's tougher than the rest... Oops :s-smilie: too late now anyway but I'd thought they were all more or less as difficult to get into as each other :L

Don't worry, that's merely subjective! I'm applying for HSPS and St John's wants me to sit 2 written exams on top of 2 interviews, which I don't really want to do. It's mostly because my first language isn't English and one of the tests is essay-based, so I know that I wouldn't do as well as a native speaker.
