Yeah King's is tiny, I wouldn't think about it. Their chapel is actually the smallest in Cambridge :fyi:.

big chapel, small college :p:

I'd count out Pembroke too- lovely place, but not a big college.
Thanks for the suggestions. Now the choices are narrowing.:yep:
But I'm not sure if my records are good enough for Trinity/ St. John's. As far as I know they can be quite picky.
Should I go with them? Or is there any other college that is more appropriate for me?

In all honesty i would just go on what we tell you. reputations and preconceptions only give you so much. I would advise visiting if possible. You would be spending 3 years min wherever you end up so its got to be somewhere you like

just go and visit and apply to whichever one u like best. You have no smaller chance of entry because of your college choice, the pooling system ensures that.

I'm studying in the EU, and I will apply to Cambridge next year. I have read the official brochures about colleges but I'm still not sure which college should I apply.
My preferences: Trinity, King's, St. John's, Pembroke
I perform quite well in school, won the national physics competition, 12th in maths, and I am selected to the IPhO this year.
Which college would you suggest? I prefer bigger colleges with good academic record,.

I like your definition of "quite well". If you're good enough to get into the IPhO I really can't see you not getting in tbh. And all Cambridge colleges are picky, Trinity and John's less so (statistically) than Clare and Emmanuel and a few others. Have you thought about Emmanuel by the way? Lovely buildings, slightly out of the tourist trail, largish and very strong academic record (if the Tompkins table is to be given any credit). So good I almost applied there! Good luck.

Opinions on Trinity, Johns, Pembroke and Queens for Eco?

Cheers

they asked for opinions, not "show me the relevant page on a website" :p: Chances are they've looked at the website and now want existing students' opinions.

Personally I have no opinion (as I'm a lawyer and not at any of those colleges) ...I'm sure someone else will do though.

What he said ^^^^^^

Done all that, just looking for student perspectives, even stereotypes if thats all you've got to throw at me :yep:
Ok anyone I need a bit of help!

Im applying for anthropology and archaeology and was initially thinking of going for Christs college. I went to an open day at Christs and the DOS there shared a lot of my interests in the subjects.
However Im starting to think its one of the most competitive colleges to get in to.
Now im turning more towards Queens - its got great sport and theatre, and its potentially less competetive.

Do you think it would actually make any difference if I applied to Queens rather than Christs? Both colleges look great (although I have already chatted to the DOS at Christs, and the DOS at Queens is in bio-anth, something im not so keen on!).

My main priorities in college choice would be: accommodation, sport, drama, and music. I wouldn't mind cycling a distance, as long as the college itself is beautiful!

i was pooled by Queens', taken by Christ's, so for me it was less competitive (for economics)

hmmm interesting. I love Christs. I think if I didn't apply there I would regret it :yep:
Then that's your answer!

Yeah... but... Id rather get in than get rejected from a competitive college
*sigh* ALL of the colleges are extremely competitive. Every single one. Just pick the one you like.

yeah okay
Queen's is much closer to the first year Arch and Anth lectures, which are mostly on Mill Lane
It's hardly a trek from Christ's though, really. And a bit more of a walk before your lectures means that you're actually awake for them. Which is why I've picked second year accomodation that's even further away from Sidg... well, it felt like a good idea at the time :frown:
Are there any colleges that seem to have a better opinion of the IB than others - ie lower requested grades?

cheers x
thanks, that was really helpful xxx

hei people.

I would like your advice please, as even this college system is new for me, as I am portuguese and universities here don't have such thing.

I will be in Cambridge, hopefully next September, as an assistant researcher in Judge Business School. I've been looking for a college that could provide me accomodation but after e-mailing almost all colleges I've concluded that as an assistant researcher I won't be entitled to get accomodation.

One particular college asked me 1000£ for membership. I would like to take full advantage of being in Cam and experience the whole stuff but 1000£ for 6 months, taking in account that the college wouldn't be spending a significant amount of money with me, it's quite too much maybe.

Can I wait 'till I go to understand better my needs and make a more informed choice? Is it even remotely possible to wait for a drop out and get college accomodation?

Hope I don't sound to silly.

Cheers.
