Selwyn, Newnham, Robinson, Queens', Darwin are the closest.

Kings and Clare are also close.

Between Clare and St. Johns.

I'm looking for natural science.
I'm looking for equal male/female ratio.
I'm looking for gothic architecture
I'm looking for nice gardens.
and I''m looking for great social life.

any ideas?

thanks

For John's

1) We have Natural Science! About 30 or a wee bit over per year
2) We probably have more guys than we should, but only slightly worse ratio than the average (at mixed colleges)...57% guys at a guess.
3) We got some gothic. New Court is neo-gothic or something like that.
4) Got a large amount of gardens and a big area on the backs...but lose in niceness to Clare each day of the week.
5) ...Okeydokey

caius is the closest, at least in your first year.

well, same distance as newnham & selwyn, depending on what part of the site you want to get to..

really? i remeber it took me ages to walk from kings sidgwick. and clare is in the same area as kings.

i'm not going to apply to queen's because all the windows are broken...no offense.

What? are there lots of sidgwick sites? what do you mean by "depending on what part of the site you wnat to get to..." i was thinking about the one where there is a big building called "Criminology."

How about the food? Which college has the most choices.

I'm a really picky eater haha.
The Sidgwick site is pretty big, so some colleges just happen to be nearer to different sides of the site.

Some colleges (Clare/Kings for instance) have their 1st year accommodation on a different site closer to Sidgwick, but you may end up further away in later years.

Not really sure about the food around there, but I would say that you should first think about things like whether you want to go to an all-girls college? (Newnham) or a newer college? (Robinson) etc. Most colleges will have decent food (I've eaten at Selwyn and Robinson and they seemed nice enough really) so you might want to think about the other aspects first.
Robinson food is reeeeeally good.

if it took you 'ages' to walk from kings to the sidgewick site, either you went the wrong way or don't know how to walk.

and all caius first years live directly next to the sidgewick site.

Selwyn food is very nice.
Clare Clare Clare Clare Clare Clare Clare.

Selwyn and Robinson are just that bit too far from Sainsbury's
Don't forget Newnham.

Though you may lack the necessary qualifications.

Catz as well - 2nd years live almost idrectly opposite Sidgwick.

Also it's good to see a sensible question rather than 'are my grades good enough'.

I have just started sixth form and was looking at applying for maths at cambridge but wasn't sure which college to apply for. Ideally I would like a reasonably small college near the centre of town;i am considering emmanuel. Which colleges are the best for maths? I know that the lectures would be the same for everyone but aren't you given tutorials within the college itself?

Also do think I stand a chance (I know everyone asks this!)?
I got 10 a* at GCSE and I only did ten. I also took my c1 paper early and got 100/100 UMS. I am taking latin, further maths, maths, physics, critical thinking and chemistry for a-level and hope to carry them all onto A2.

FFS. Of course you stand a chance. I don't even have to think about applying, but even I know you could get in.

Christ's is small and near the centre of town.

You have more than enough GCSEs to get in, but AS levels, PS, school reference, and interview all play an important role. Good luck

Thanks.

I was also worried about STEP papers. I have always done very well at UKMT maths challenges but these papers seem very difficult. What happens if you get the required A-levels but not the STEp grade needed from a conditional offer?

Then unless your college decide to take you, you either go into the summer pool or you get rejected. It's the same process as slipping a grade on an offer which doesn't involve STEP

Although I think they'd look more kindly on a slipped A level rather than STEP, however they can see STEP, so if it's just silly mistakes, maybe they'd look more kindly there.(Saying that, I know a few people who didn't get their STEP grades but are in).

Why would you not stand a chance?! You have the highest grades it is possible to get! What do you think all Cambridge applicants have, Nobel prizes? :p:
If you haven't done so already, you might want to post this on the Cambridge forum as well.
