No! I'm just not gay - it's no good if all the guys around me are gay!
Perfectly happy to have gay friends

Broaden your horizons, and your...umm yeah horizons.

So Peterhouse is a definite no for me then...
Do Queens' students eat in the beautiful old hall or the new thing? I know this isn't really a priority, just curious

You should avoid just taking everybody's opinions as fact you know.

I'm at Peterhouse. There are tories, and there are gays. Surprisingly you also get these at other colleges :zomg: (I'm straight and left wing, by the by) I know only one gay person in my year group, and one in the year above (that's two out of like 250 people or so )

Peterhouse is small, and you get to know everyone very well, but you also get to know loads of other people through your interests, lectures, social life in the context of the University as a whole.
Peterhouse has great accommodation which is all very central. The college is stunning. We have a lovely library and hall, and eat all of our meals by candle light.

this post will come back to haunt you. you've probably blown all chances of getting into cambridge now. the authorities will have seen this and blacklisted you.
Hey! OK let's clear this up.
I have nothing against gay people. I have some gay friends
I take Craghyrax's point about not taking people's opinions as fact
However, I have decided based on size, atmosphere and facilities that I am going to apply to either Queens or Pembroke. I just like them more
Thanks for everyone's help

this is really mean
as i have stated, i have nothing against gay people - i have several gay friends and a family member who is gay
i am one of the least homophobic people you could ever meet
just wanted to see what people who go to cambridge actually think of the other colleges, as they are in a position to know
sorry if i offended anybody, it was unintentional

Out of those two, Pembroke is the more picturesque in my opinion but Queens has a better social scene as it's bigger and has more about it. Depends what you're looking for.

Hi,
Have looked round Clare and Jesus today, and can't make my mind up which is best; interested in studying medicine. Help! need to decide asap!
Thanks

Clare, obviously.

*ahem*

More seriously, what are you looking for in a college? Neither is 'best', they're just different.

Jesus seems quite sporty, not sure about Clare, but I don't think they are to the same extent. I think Clare accommodation is more spread out, as well, with less living on the main site or nearby compared to Jesus, altough someone actually at those colleges would have to confirm that.

Both seem nice from what I know of them though. Distance from your department might be worth considering if there's nothing else between them.
To be honest I would equate them both in terms of greatness. Nice locations, good sizes, cool bars, good May Balls etc.

Well, I'm wanting to study medicine, but am quite into music. Loved Clare but worried about the tourists and the Colony being offsite...
Although Jesus was all further away, and it's quite sporty?
Jesus, cus its awesome

in all seriousness, i wont be able to give you a decent answer till tuesday evening when i move in

So if you were going to choose one of Clare or Jesus, which would you choose?

Also, because it was a Clare open day, I got to see the rooms/formal hall/buttery/cellars, does anyone know what these are like at Jesus?
Reply 1179
