Which colleges particularly prefer state school applicants?
I don't think any prefer it but Kings have a bit of a reputation of letting in a large amount of state school applicants.

Am I right about the above? ^^^
I got into Trinity Hall and I am from a state school. However, if you are planning on applying to Cambridge, you are probably aware that one person is not a valid statistical sample. Thus, I apologise for wasting your time on this post.

Robinson has loads.
having had a conversation about this with my dos he said that at magdalene that is not allowed to have any bearing on whether you get in (either good or bad) and the college is very strict on making sure that admissions are fair in the state vs private school
I don't think any college is supposed to use your school as a criteria for admission, either positive or negative. There are some colleges which typically have a greater proportion of students from state schools (King's typically has the most, I think I've seen some statistics comparing them all, but I can't find them at the moment), but this is only relevant if you would rather be around more or less state school pupils (even this doesn't matter, once you get in no-one cares which school you're from).

It does and, although I went to a comprehensive, does anyone else think that it is a grotesque betrayal of its history that Kings, which was originally designed to be for Eton pupils, became so far the other way? There's something not right about the college that was designed to be the grandest at either Oxford or Cambridge becoming so 'lefty'. Or do those from the public schools simply not want to study so much in a college that's so open to the elements and with so many tourists?
to be honest it really doesn't matter what type of school you come from.

the ones with a higher % of state school students, just had higher applicants, because every state school person assumes that they have a better chance of getting into them, and so apply there.

and anyways, most of the "state school" kids here are actually from grammar schools, which really don't count in my mind. i think i'm the only one of my friends who went to a normal proper crappy state school.

but yeh dont apply to a college because of statistics. apply because its a nice college that suits your personality
When I looked around Cambridge (as a tourist), Jesus College impressed me one of the most Didgeridoo. A bit on the outskirts compared to some colleges but with the most playing fields on its grounds a a result. I love the entrance to it as well. They really do maintain the colleges at Cambridge very well.

My friend he went to Robinson..Hes all state school..same highschool has me.
If you are choosing your college because of the number of state school applicants it gives places to, you aren't choosing your college right. Choose the college you most want to go to, everyone has a pretty much equal chance of getting in due to the pooling system and the fact that they interview nearly everyone.
its university policy not to discriminate between!! jesus tends to take a lot!!

We sure do! I'm from a state school myself. TBH while king's has a reputation for being open to state school applications, all colleges are open to them, they're interested in getting the best candidates these days not supporting certain schools.

King's let in a high proportion of state schoolers because they get a high proportion of applications from state schoolers. It has nothing to do with politics at the Admissions stage - they just look at all the candidates and pick the best ones. Since more state school people apply, chances are that more state school people will get in.

When you're looking at statistics for any college DON'T just look at the proportion of state schoolers that get offers. That doesn't tell you anything unless you also know how many applied.

I wasn't implying that they did. I said none prefer it, and will look for the best applicant. All I meant was that Kings take in a lot of State schoolers
