Thankyou all for advice so far..!
I'm in Cambridge for the next few days (arrived today and leaving Saturday) and so I'm having a look around the colleges.. So far I've seen Christ's, Emmanuel and Downing.. Got to say that Emmanuel has been my favourite so far, however all have been stunning and I know I'd be so lucky to be able to live/study in ANY of these colleges!
Something else I've been thinking about helping me make my decision is 24/7 libraries.. Which colleges have 24/7 libraries? I think I'd prefer a middle sized college if this helps? And I'd like a fairly central college.. 10/15 minute walk away or something? Not too far out
Can anyone tell me about King's college? I walked past it today and the building is amazing! Going to go and check it out tomorrow but if anyone has any information on it that's always helpful!
Oh, and does Emmanuel have en-suite rooms? I think this is a fairly important thing for me.. Thankyou

Christ's and Emma both have 24/7 libraries, are both quite central (Christ's is about as central as you can humanly be...) and are both medium-sized. I'm not sure about other colleges - possibly Robinson? I believe Emma does have en-suite but, iirc, it's only for 3rd years or something? I'm pretty sure freshers are unlikely to get en-suite there. There's actually a (remote) chance of getting en-suite in Christ's for all 3 years if it's really that important - 2nd year is the least likely year to have it there but a lot of 1st years will get it and a fair amount of 3rd years. And anyone who gets a 1st.

King's, i don't know too much about except it's big and touristy but has some stunning grounds and a communist flag in the bar

I've finally decided on Clare College I think
The grounds were beautiful, it's near the water and I've heard the accomodation is some of the best. While I know it'll probably be a more difficult one to get into I'm going to try and see how I get on.. Yay.
Thanks to everyone for their help!

How many internationals does King's have?
As the title of the thread says really. Having spend my secondary school years in a not private but lets just say very 'middle class' school trying to be private (the whole flashing parents' cash, rah, 5 bedroom houses next to people on EMA type thing). At a more balanced sxith form college now, but considering which colleges to go for in my cambridge application just wondering which of the above colleges is most 'rah' or cliquey. (These are the ones that I liked sound of the most basically).
I know some people say it doesn't matter all that much, but i was really not happy at this previous school and definitely don't want to go somewhere with a similar atmosphere.
Any help, or other info on the 'feel' of these colleges would be much appreciated!
Thanks =)
Queens' and Sidney are not seen to be as public school as Jesus, but this is probably unjust.

Urgh things like this annoy me. What's so wrong with stereotypical 'rahs' anyway? Tbh I've found most people bitching about them are cheap tacky jealous chavs, and they're just being vindictive to those who have nice things. Not saying you are btw, just a lot of people who say ridic things about them.

Rah > chavs by a long shot.

Also, I doubt you'll get anywhere 'rah' free. Also, a lot of "rahs" are actually really nice, so yeah.
The chavs round where I live don't even know rahs exist. Trust me.
I understand how you may find it annoying...but think the reverse, would you as a chav-hater wish to go to a college full of them..? I know they can be nice people, but if you feel the need to buy a £70 plain hoody that says Jack Wills on it just to make a statement that you're 'rich' or 'fashionable' i don't want to know them.

ahh that sounds really bad. Sorry =/ anyway back to the subject at hand...

Well I had an interview at Jesus and despite there being huuuuge amounts of private school people I didn't see any 'rahs'. Make of that what you will, though to be honest it's just a style and a trend that doesn't necessarily mean they are bad people. Pick your college on how you feel when you look around it or read about it, not on who else might be there.

Lol I'm wearing my 'JACK' hoody as we speak...

But yeah I do know what you mean, I'd hate to go to a uni full of chavs, I guess it's what you're used to and who you have most in common with.

Seriously though, I think you'll get them in every college.

I wouldn't have thought there would be very many tbh. But why 'worry' about rahs, there's nothing wrong with them, they're fine. Rahs don't go around vandalising things and starting fights with random strangers, so I don't get why people have such an issue with them.
I suppose. But chavs, which there are an awful lot of round where I live, you can sort of ignore, dismiss them if they act like idiots and hang round street corners going "oioi yer mums a slaag." Also they generally don't think of themselves as 'better' than you...and if they do you can just laugh at them really.

Yeah I sort of understand that rahs are going to be everywhere in places like cambridge and the top unis, which is a bit annoying as it still proves we've got a looong way to go in making top higher ed instituions accessible to lower classes/income groups. I'd just out of the colleges I'm considering, go somewhere LESS private school/rah dominated than elsewhere.
Everyone I know from Sidney is very nice. I don't know many from Queens' or Jesus.
everyone from jesus is bloody amazing

quite a few of them are from public schools though, doesn't make them bad at all, they're all lovely

Chavs are so much more annoying though, I mean like, they scrounge off the taxpayer, vandalise things, beat people up, wear foul tracksuits, harrass members of the public etc...

And btw, a lot of people just think they're better than the chavs. Which to be frank, the majority of people are.

Yeah you won't be able to avoid them, so I'd just go for whichever one you prefer and make the best of it, there will be 'non-rah' people there too. Also, uni's are accessible to everyone, but it tends to be people from lower classes that don't work as hard, don't have the right attitude etc...

Although that's another topic completely. :p:
Don't avoid the rahs, just ignore them. Chavs>rahs by far. At least they aren't pretentious jack wills wearing cliquey types.
Someone once told me that Cambridge is too posh for rahs. I haven't met any so they may be onto something there

Tbh, i haven't heard bad things about any of those 3 colleges so you should be fine, OP.

Lol chavs don't > rahs. Chavs are vile and disgusting, they're a plague on society. Bloody antisocial, uneducated pricks.

Why does wearing Jack Wills make someone pretentious? I wear Jack Wills. Also, at least so called 'Jack Wills wearing cliquey types' are cultured. Myself and my friends would much rather go out for a meal or to the theatre, than smash a bus-shelter because it makes us look "well 'ard bruv" or whatever tosh they say.

Blatant jealousy.

Why must you turn every thread into a chavs versus rahs slanging match? They're both just as socially inept as each other. FFS.
