The entry requirements for this course at newcastle is quite variable, just wondering what offers people have got applying for courses at newcastle with AAA/BBB as the required grades.
If anyone who has had an offer could say what subjects they took at A Level also maybe it would help me see what offer i might get, i wont get AAA but i might get ABB...
with courses like this i believe the way of thinking is that if the applicant has done economics and politics and maths for a level (for example) they would be given a lower entry requirement as they clearly already have ability in the course area. if the applicant has history politics and english they may be given ABB. if the applicant has psychology, sociology and rs perhaps they would be given AAA. does that make sense? that's only a vague idea anyway. people apply for courses like this having gotten bcc at as, i wouldn't worry too much about what you think you'll get. if you apply they'll look at YOU if your grades are good enough.
The course I applied for in 08 (but never had any intention of taking just filling up a place) was ABB/BBC and the offer I got was ABB. It doesn't make any sense to me.

I'm doing Government and Politics, Maths with Statistics and Geography at A2 and i did Physics for AS.
So by what you say they should like my subjects and get an offer closer to BBB than AAA? yay
I have no idea why there's such a wide offer scale. I applied to Essex in 2005 (AAA-BBC) and got a BBC offer, but that was after interview. I always presumed that the non-interview variable offers take some account of school profile and the overall desirability of the application.
This might be completely nothing to do with it, but Newcastle do have a "partners" scheme which offers lower grades dependent upon the candidate attending and passing a summer school. Typically they are a grade lower than usual in each A level.

yup ive just come back from it you subtract one grade from each so ABB becomes BCC but you also have to pass the summer school. I also believe for some course you are gaureented an offer

how do you get on one of these courses? is it in newcastle or can you do it by post open university style?

The partners scheme only applies to those in the sort of... North East region. And certain criteria have to be met such as living in an area where very few people go to university. I don't know of other universities do a similar thing or not.
