I see people saying they got a contextual offer that has reduced their grade requirements. How do you get them?

Reduced contextual usually means you have to put that offer as your first choice, if not the original grade requirements will stand. It could also be based in your circumstances such as being a first generation student of because of your postcode. If you have been disadvantaged in anyway a lower offer may be made.

Contextual offers dont matter whether you firm a university or not. They are offers made to people either school doesnt produce the best A levels, have been in care or live in an area with low progression to higher education. Basically you university will set their conditions for contextual offers and if you qualify you get picked up automatically from your ucas application. Some require you to have 1 contextual flag and others require 2. Some universities such as Exeter and Bristol make offers on schooling others dont and base it on your post code. The idea of contextual offers is to increase the number of students from poorer background going into top universities because of the low numbers currently doing so. I have taken some information from Bristol university and posted it below.

What is a contextual offer?
At Bristol we want to attract students from all backgrounds because we believe a student community that reflects our society will benefit everyone.
Our contextual offer is a grade reduction of up to two grades below the standard entry requirements and is made to those from backgrounds who, generally, are less likely to come here. Once here, data shows that our contextual offer students achieve above average academically.
Details of our standard and contextual offer entry requirements are available on course pages. Use our course search tool to search our courses
