thanks for the help.

Its 16, but if you are planning to move out, go down to your local jobcentreplus or you local authority and let them know.
They can help with housing, costs, furniture etc.

Yeah, they can out you on benefits and stuff like that, they then contact other authorities and can help people a great deal.
I only know cos a friend moved out of his house and he got a 1 bed flat, fully furnished, with benefits until he found a job and a case worker who came to his place and spoke to him about what job he wants, what things he needs etc.

I take it this doesn't apply to students in full time education then ?

Nope, he was 16 and had no where to live...so he was going to be homeless.
He played his case though, saying he COULD NOT live at home at all ever!

Reply 13

yeah, like people have said, age 16.
though do be aware, you are making yourself homeless and so if you are expecting a house from the council then you'll have a long wait. so i suggest that you have somewhere to move out to.

you can do it whilst carrying on full time education. i say this from personal experience

If you have a reason for moving out age 16, like a valid one you would actually get a flat and the support someone else described above.
I know of someone they did, but its because their mother was a bit crazy and used to lock her in the house and refuse to let her out etc so she told social services.
Its unlikely you would get support if you moved out by your own choice.

You may have some dificulties at 17 though, as often someone over the age of 18 has to sign certain legal forms and lots of landlords wont take anyone under 18.

Reply 16

Hmm, well it's nothing to go to social services about so i'm def not gonna get support i don't mind though
it's three of us and we're planing to share an apartment
one of us will be 18 by then, would that make a difference
or would the two of us who aren't 18 not be allowed?
but then, if the age is 16 why should the landlords mind?
aaaah, i'm confused.

Reply 17

personally, if i was the 18 year old i wouldn't get into a situation where my name is the only one on the contract cos i would be responsible for everything. living on your own is not easy and it's infinitely more difficult at your age. You probably won't get support as your care wouldn't be classified as urgent. You need to consider a lot of things. Are you getting a job, how're you paying bills, education etc.

Reply 18

I myself left at 16 and live on my own now at 19.

Reply 19

the landlords may still be iff about under 18's, as the bills and whatnot - being under 18 you won't get a nice paid job as you can when your over 18. reliability etc. :/ but i guess that depends. good luck with it all :/
