Hiya,

I am currently considering my subject choices for s6 and I wanted some advice. ) Just to give you some background, I got 7 As at Nat 5 (maths, English, history, biology, chemistry, computing, French) and 5 As in my Higher prelims (dropped French and computing).
Next year, ideally, I'd like to take Advanced Higher English, history and maths and Higher Philosophy and French, which would mean 0 studying columns at school. I'd also like to do an international baccalaureate in social sienes! Thing is, I've also got a part time job and a considerable amount of added responsibilities at school, so it would probably be hard to manage. However, I think I'd be able to do it as I genuinely enjoy all the subjects I'd be taking, and if not, I could always drop one. However, people are calling me crazy and telling me I'll regret it. I don't want to jeopardise my other grades by taking on too much, so I guess I'd like to know whether anyone's done 3 AH + 2 H and how they got on. )
Thanks!

Hi, current S6 pupil here
I am doing advanced physics, advanced chemistry, higher biology , higher psychology and HBSF = 5 subjects
HBSF is human body structure and function SCQF level 8 (one level higher than advanced highers)college course which is 2-3 periods per week (just if you're curious )
I am also a depute head girl at my school and volunteer at a care home and peer mentor S1s so I lost my free periods by volunteering
It is possible....I have completed my prelims a week ago and have ended up with 2As and 2Bs- cause HBSF has no prelim

If you work on it, have a some sort structure in your life and want to do it-I'm not stopping you, I support you. YOU DO YOU !!

You could guess what course I applied to lol

Hey, current S6 pupil here.

I'm taking 4 AHs in English, History, Modern Studies and Music - leaving me with some study periods. I got straight A's in my prelims so it's certainly not impossible by any stretch of the imagination.

Just some prior warning, though, Advanced History is great but requires A LOT of reading and essay writing in your spare time, so maybe a few free periods would be good. This is similar for Advanced English - dissertation reading and research takes up a lot of time. I know I certainly benefit from having a few free periods to get stuff done in.

Nothing stopping you doing 3 AHs plus 2 Hs but no universities would reasonably expect this. The max would be 3/4 AH for Oxbridge but that's it. You can always start the 3 AHs plus 2 Hs in June and see how you get on. Just remember to factor in extra time for dissertations and assignments after the summer holidays.

I’m doing 3advanced highers but would be doing 4 if my school ran the other one I wanted. Doing more is good if you need advanced higher grades for uni like me. My offers are based on 3 advanced higher grades, so doing a fourth one would increase my chances.

I’ve done little studying and managed to do fine in prelims, if I was doing 4 I’d still expect all A1s, so if you’re a hard worker 5 advanced would be doable, so 3 and 2 highers seems fine. (Seen 6 advanced be done).
