So what kinda hobbies would be related to engineering? especially civil?

I applied for general engineering, so I had more choice, but I've always had an interest in electronics so I took a load of broken iPods and combined the good parts of each, then swapped the hard drive for a SSD and did a few cosmetic upgrades. By the end it was superior to a brand new shop-bought iPod.

Civil is a bit more difficult seeing as you can't do it easily and cheaply on a small scale. If you have a model shop near you you could buy a pack of cheap balsa wood and build a bridge or something? They usually sell airfix-esque plastic parts and metal rods etc that you could maybe build something out of.

Have you ever played the videogame pontifrex? That may be a good place to start. It is quite old now but works fine on XP (and thus I assume Vista and Seven)
