I came here wanting to meet new people and make friends with people who I otherwise would not have been able to if I had not come to uni. I have started my second term at uni now and I go out with two of my flatmates every week and have some mates on my course. I have fallen in to the trap of just settling on this and the people I am friends with are the exact same type of people as my hometown mates and I want to broaden my horizons and meet different interesting people. I don't know how I have done this maybe its just me and I fit in with these people but I don't know now how to make new friends as everyones basically settled now. I'm tired of the type of people I hang about with as I don't have much in common with them other than football and going out drinking etc..

You could try a radically different activity / club. Join the debating society for instance or go to Student Voice at the students' union. Join a church. Join a singing group. Go to a board games night. Join a dance club. The key is to try another group totally unrelated to alcohol or football.
