I am surprised we haven't made significant improvements in battery technology, given the funding I think has been invested in it.

Battery tech. This is quite honestly a funny one because the advancements are there, the issue is that they just never seem to leave the lab and make it to market.

VR and AR. With these it's not so much the lack of advancement but rather the speed. I would've thought they'd be a lot bigger by now or even borderline commonplace in the home (mainly AR)

Well, there could also be a lot of money for any company that could create batteries, with patents, that last considerably longer as well.
