I was reading an article on Lampard and keepers. At Derby and Chelsea, his keepers had a circa 70% career save ratio before he was manager but once he was in charge they had a circa 55% save ratio.

This must be a systemic flaw in the way Lampard sets a team up, so the opposition get really good and clear shooting opportunities against the keeper.

Yup tbh. I can believe it. Kepa don’t help himself sometimes the guy doesn’t even bother diving for the shots but they have no protection. Our transition from attack to defence is probably one of the worst in the league

Even Barnsley could’ve scored at least 3 goals against us but Willy managed to pull off some good saves

Yeah I've been looking at the eye test and it seems like this.

He can't organise a defence yet, but when we went to 4-3-3 near the end of last season with Kanté at the best we seemed to cover the problems. Obviously can't just rely on Kanté all the time so could do with someone else there.

Kepa's been scapegoated and its sad, still want to get rid as its best for all and his lack of ability in catching balls and being 15cm shorter than our previous goalkeeper isn't covered by his shotstopping, passing or aggressiveness like Ederson is able to do.

Mendy comes in and he solves those problems so there's no excuse for Lampard if we're leaking goals. Also Silva being faster at 35 than Christensen is funny. Him and Zouma gonna create a great partnership.

Even Cech would concede a **** ton of goals with this team. I said at the end of last season yes, there had been individual errors by our defenders and Kepa at times but I didn’t think they were as bad as the number of goals we conceded and also we had better defenders than when Sarri was here and yet we were conceding more so it’s to do with Lampard’s structure. I thought this Anthony Barry guy we poached from Wigan who is highly spoken of would help with this and we did look solid against Liverpool but it’s against the small teams that we actually need to do better. It’s as if we just think they are **** and are gonna park the bus so the whole team has to attack. It’s naive.

Every team makes errors but we are not set up to survive any errors. Our fullbacks basically play like wingbacks and both bomb forward at will and at the same time. Kovacic is meant to be the sitting midfielder, not Kante and he’s hardly ever there to be seen when we’re in trouble.

I’m actually convinced now we should just play Christensen as a DM for this season. He’s a good passer of the ball and knows how to pass between the lines and will be more defensively disciplined than Kovacic or Jorginho etc

I don't know about better defenders than when Sarri was here. Rudiger and Luiz performed a good partnership and they were very good at ball progression. I don't think Rudiger was particularly bad that season, Luiz obviously was typical David Luiz, inconsistent but on his day world class.

Anyway Alonso the 'attacking' fullback has made zero crosses this season. Reece is managing 2.7 per game.

Tbh Conté was trying to replace him after a season with Alex Sandro for a reason.

To be fair, who's even heard of this defender before? It's not like he's gone out and bought an obvious name like Thiago Silva or Koulibaily.

His job is just to set up a brilliant team regardless of his club's finances.

Does anyone talk about SAF being a fraud when Man Utd were giving him loads of money to buy all the best players around for a decade or two? Only when Chelsea came in and hired the Special Fraud who spent hundreds of millions that he realised Man Utd couldn't compete.

Well I meant that we lost Luiz and brought back Zouma which in a defensive sense is better and then sold an ageing Cahill for a young Tomori which again should be an improvement and yet somehow we’ve been worse.

There will be nowhere to hide anymore once Mendy starts playing because like you say Kepa has been scapegoated. He won’t ever recover at this club imo but could still have a good career elsewhere.

Man ****ing Alonso. I thought I would be okay with that guy being backup seeing as he’s useful if we ever want to switch to a 352 but nah he needs to go instead of Emerson. There’ve been far too many performances like Saturday from him. He runs in slow motion and when he decides to have a bad game he really goes for it and it costs us. If Chilwell was to get injured again I wouldn’t want Alonso stepping in for a significant period of time.

Apparently Alonso chose to go back to the team coach after the second half instead of sitting on the bench and got a dressing down by Lampard in front of the whole team. Alonso is dusted at this club....About time Frank erupted too. You get the sense he's been too nice so far

You could tell Lampard was gonna kill someone in the middle of the first half.

doesn't matter because Frank will play him next weekend

Surely not? That will be worse than when Mourinho kept playing a finished Ivanovic at RB that season. We’ve been through so much lmao

I've seen this before at this club, nothing surprises me anymore. Chelsea are making me depressed again.

I want to see our team vs Spurs tomorrow, I think Kepa should play tbh. Even if it's his last game just let him have some sort of ceremony. I like how Lampard has realised now that Kepa's been getting unfair criticism.

Does Alonso have something on Abramovic, so no manager can bomb him?

Do not fancy our midfield tonight. The Spurs midfield looks strong especially now that Ndombele is playing well since Mourinho joined

Reply 579

pleased somewhat with performance.

Spurs are fruitless in attack so we're probably going to beat them
