How nice it is to feel safe during corners and set pieces against us. Mendy’s gonna seem doubly impressive than he actually is because he’s just an improvement on what we’ve been dealing with.

Reply 581

also because Tomori and Zouma have looked good too and we don't have a liability of a left back. put them on lockdown.

Mou gonna keep it at 1-0 until 75min and they start to artack

Reply 582

Giroud trying but he's still putting a 3/10 performance

Reply 583

We didn’t turn up second half. Game was there for us to win in 90. Only got ourselves to blame if we can’t win these penalties

Reply 584

lol this is one of those games.

Don't think we were bad defensively but we lost control of the game.

We created about 3 clear cut chances in the second half when Spurs were pushing and we bottled it.

Mount had a terrible game before the penalty miss. Lampard is gonna run him into the ground. With his playing style you’d think he’d give him a rest here and there but no, he plays every single minute available.

Anyway some positives, Werner finally got his goal and Mendy looked good.

thoughts on Chilwell? I think he was solid today.

Yeah the use of Mount is funny now, I think Mount will come good and has had good moments this season but we have Havertz, Barkley and loftus cheek, Mount doesn't need to be starting at all times no sub.

Yeah Chilwell also seems promising. Both in attack and defence. Wouldn’t have been sleeping on Lamela like Emerson for that equaliser that’s for sure.

I think Mount has already come good and is an asset to the team but he’s way overplayed. Havertz should’ve come on once Spurs started leaving spaces behind. Jeez even Barkley I’d take.

Ruben is going on loan it seems and honestly it’s for the best. Rate the guy far too much to just see him waste away on the bench and getting a game once a month. He can go Villa or Southampton and play week in, week out and hopefully discover his form again. The Euros are coming after all and his Palace stint earned him an England place last time.

Barkley loaned out to Villa. Bit unexpected coz he seemed like the perfect rotation player, happy to play cup games etc. With RLC also expected to go on loan and possibly Jorginho that probably means the club is confident in getting Rice. Or maybe one of them is now staying

Tbh it's 3 games in and it's clear 4-3-3 with Kante at the base is our best formation.

Loftus and mount can play as no.8s. Keita another player who's had injury problems like Loftus and Klopp just played him when he was ready easing him in.

I think Loftus should stay here. backup for Mount for now who can't be playing every game anyway, issue is when Ziyech and Pulisic are back what happens but we have a lot of competitions.

It's why I'm a little annoyed we didn't finish spurs off, we have a lot of depth and this depth would be more suited to being in more competitions than just the league and CL.

Loftus Cheek would be perfect for league cup games e.g. I don't see why Mount should be starting a league cup match anyway.

What a surprise that Barkley wasn't good enough for Chelsea..

You honestly see Loftus getting his form back by playing a game here and there? He had a bigger injury compared to Keita so the same method wont work imo. Lampard has given him a game here and there since the restart in June and he seems to have made no progress at all.
Think he needs consecutive games to actually get going at this point because unlike Barkley, I doubt he would be happy just being a squad player in the long term. His plan is to push for the starting XI.

Yeah it's annoying about the league cup. It would have been a good competition to go deep in to give the fringe players games and if we win it then it builds that winning mentality within the team which seems to be lacking at the moment. Spurs probably weren't bothered about the competition considering their ridiculous fixture congestion

I'm not even fussed about winning mentality but we have a big squad and need the games so players are fresh. We want to ease in Pulisic e.g. and Ziyech, League cup would be perfect for them to get a start or sub appearance.

I think Loftus Cheek will still be needed, we can't play Mount at all times and considering our injuries last season might be good having him around, he'll play more than you think.

goalscoring left back. nice to see man

Reply 596

Chilwell such a beast. Silva a beast and Zouma great too.

Reply 597

Anyway while Mendy's been fine and composed I'm convinced now that our issue this whole time was our CB and left back.

Reply 598

It was the system as well imo but yeah what an upgrade we’ve got in Chilwell. He does get caught out at times but he actually sprints back and gets back to disrupt the attack in some way. The rare occasions Alonso managed to get back, he would just stand around the box and then get caught out again and we concede.

Good leadership all round in the defence today. Never felt like we were under threat but tbf Palace didn’t offer much going forward. This season playing next to Silva will really take Zouma to new heights.

Reply 599

Is it some sort of spiritual bondage that Callum has on Bayern?? Can’t believe they are twerking for him again even after getting Sane.

CHO not pushing it this time though. If the club sells him then it’s on them and he will inevitably come back to bite us in the ass like DeBruyne and Salah.
