Arden University

Does anybody have any thoughts on Arden University or Open Uni? I am looking to study psychology (online distance learning) - Has anybody studied this with either? Arden recommended going straight into their masters even though my bachelor's degree is not in this field. I was worried this would be too challenging..
Hi there!

I’m going to be studying with Arden Uni to do psychology, l’ll let you know!

Hey everyone, any updates on Arden? I am thinking about applying for either BA Business (Marketing) or BA Business (Tourism). Reason for these 2 choices is that I have previously studied Marketing to HND level and I have now worked in the Travel Industry for 14 years so would be building on previous study/work experience etc..

I can see that the Business courses appear to be CMI accredited with free access to Salesforce & Cisco which is great if true?!

I can see a lot of very mixed reviews on Arden. I considered OU too but I am more drawn to Arden for some reason.

Just wondered if anyone has any recent news or updates?? I don’t want to waste time and money.

Hiya!

I can only talk as an psychology student but my thoughts are,

◾️ Really supportive, tutors are great in forums, video chats and always try and interact with students. On Twitter they interact with my tweet and super positive. Tutors will email back super quick.
◾️ Lessons are easy to understand and activities are good to test knowledge
◾️ Induction sets you up for any assessments or exams
◾️ The live video lessons will be recorded, you’ll never miss a thing
◾️ Easy and clear website to find modules and lessons. Super organised and you feel in control
◾️ You can always go back to previous lessons
◾️ You have an online “notebook”. I’m cabin crew so it wouldn’t be wise for me to carry around heavy notes so that’s handy
◾️ All the textbooks, journals, published work are online for free with Arden

That’s all I can think of for now! Message me if you need to know anything else

Thanks for your super quick response Rach!

I was actually Cabin Crew too for 12 years, now I have a baby and work as a Travel Agent. The baby is the reason I can only really study online and also the reason I can’t fly anymore!

That’s good to hear. I attended the webinar open day this week and all sounded good, almost too good to be true though, hence the reason i joined this forum to find out more info.

No worries!

Oh my god! Wow! And yes being stuck in New York isn’t great when your baby is in the UK!

Yeah I haven’t come across anything negative but I’m only in week 2! I’m seriously enjoying it though and I don’t look back at my choice x understand thought it’s a lot of money and want to make the right choice for you!

Good luck and I hope you find the right uni!

Hi Rachel,

This post from yourself is really helpful. I'm assuming you have finished the psychology degree at Arden now - can I ask how you found the experience overall?

I am planning to do Psychology online and Arden has recently contacted me and on paper, it really suits my situatio (overseas, have children and working part time).

My hold up is that I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews about Arden. But I am seeing some positive ones also amongst them. I'm not really going into this to make a bunch of new friends, I need to be able to log on, study and get through it.

Any feedback would be great!

Thanks :-)

Hi!

And yes I have finished my studies and I am super proud of my 1st class honours and a dream job!

But I’ll list my pros and cons though!

Cons for Arden Uni
(These are not reaaally cons, they are worth keeping in mind when comparing Arden to a traditional university)

Self directed learning. You have to be disciplined!

You have to choose when to study

You need to put the time in

You need to schedule your life to fit in the studying

Pros

You can fit in university around your life

I was able to work full time and plan a wedding during

I was able to catch up with the sessions easily

Teachers were lovely

Feedback was good

I found that the lecturers were easy to contact and more than happy to schedule a 1:1 if you need it.

There are extras you can do, I was a virtual learning assistant and a research assistant at Arden.

Overall, Arden gives you the tools and you just have to be disciplined, especially if you do you work or have other responsibilities. But in my case the degree open doors for me and now I have my dream job!

@Rachys
Hello

That is a really nice summary in the last post. I did my MSc at Arden in Psychology and the access to journals was very easy even though I was 100% online. Psychology journals can be cumbersome so having online resources really helped. Tutors were easy to contact, and my dissertation supervisor was really receptive to the way in which I worked in terms of times available and learning style.

The course is fully accredited by the BPS. For an unbiased review of any institution check out their Teaching Excellence Framework Review from the Office for Students, it should be readily available online
