My 14 year old Cocker Spaniel has been diagnosed with liver cancer and the vet has said that there is nothing she can do except manage his condition and I'm really struggling coming to terms with this news. He has been a member of our family since I was 11 years old so he has been in my life more than he hasn't been if that makes sense and I'm really struggling coming to terms with the fact that I will have to say bye to him soon. I previously had another dog before Jasper and he just died in his sleep when I was about 9 and even though that was upsetting this is just a million times worse, maybe because I first saw him when he was just two weeks old so I've been with him all his life or maybe its because he still seems happy. He's still running around the garden, barking, wagging his tail and eating so he's still got a good quality of life and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with him.
I have spoken to my family and friends and whilst they are trying to comfort me noting seems to be helping. Is there anything anyone can do to help?

Unfortunately everything has a life span, and unfortunately for you, dog's in general have relatively short life spans compared to humans. You could get given all the advice in the world, but it won't change anything. You will be VERY upset but that's normal, it's normal to be upset.

It will appear that nothing could help you, and it is natural to feel like that, just remember to try to keep your close ones supporting you. They will probably seem overbareing at times, but be grateful that they are there.

And as horrible as it is to say, adventully your life will continue. I'm afraid its just one of life's horrible aspects
