Whats Uni life like in Chester ?

Hi! I've applied to Chester University and have received a conditional offer for the English language and Journalism course. I'm so excited yet so scared, I'm curious to know what the social and study sides of life is like in uni.

Hi! I've applied for animal behaviour at chester and I visited a few days ago and the town was quite dead in the evening so I'm wondering the same thing as I'm hoping it will have a nice social life.

There are loads of societies at UoC, I suggest you get in touch with the students'union about this - the societies do tend to have a good social life attached to them. I found that going for coffee/cake/a pint/a meal with friends was really easy to organise as there's a decent choice for stuff like that.

It's certainly busy in the evenings on race days, Friday nights, at 11pm on the student nights!

Hi  We totally understand the initial worry of what work life balance would be like at university. There's lots to do both on and off campus! We have over 100 different Sports and Societies at the University from MMA to Quidditch, Mountaineering to the Ru Paul Society, so it all really depends on your interests. Even if something doesn't suit, as a student you're able to set up a new society for people with shared interests or you could join other university groups like volunteering. In addition to Sports and Societies, the city is lively whether you prefer a quiet drink at a local pub, cocktail bars with friends, or dancing until early hours in a nightclub - and if the drinking scene isn't for you, there's always Storyhouse. So I'd say no matter what, there's something for everyone! - Charlie

Hey, uni life is great in Chester! Some really good nights out. If you download an app called Stunii, it will also save you loads of money, free food and drink club entry and more. Also if you're looking for accommodation if you stay at a Student Roost property and book with the agent c0de 'Stunii_2021' you will get £200 cashback for when you move in!

Hello,

The nightlife is good but there's not many clubs. If you want somewhere with more clubs then bigger cities would be a better choice.

Monday and Wednesday nights are the busiest for students in the main parts of the city. Friday's are usually SU Bar night. If you enjoy going out for cocktails, then I'd highly recommend coming here. There's plenty of places; Bar lounge, Lono Cove, Alchemist, the church bar and many more. I was surprise to find some many cocktail bars, there's literally one street that's full of them. But, these kind of places are pricey.

The city is lovely throughout the year at Christmas, there's a nice little market that has a gin and ale tent. Summer night outs get busy during racing events. But, I honestly think the best part about the nightlife having the right friend group and enjoying that company.

I hope that this helps.

Kind regards,

Ellie

Our students that have stayed with us in various student housing sites across Chester have loved the nightlife. There are not many clubs as such but the student nights are really good and very popular.
Staying with us at Tudor Place we also have many onsite social events to help you make new friends.

Not been to uni there, but ive been in the evening on a saturday (used to do ghost hunts at Stanley Palace in the city) and its buzzing. It was still buzzing about 3am when we used to finish. We went when once when it was Chester Races and everyone was dressed up to the 9's. Chesters a gorgeous place

Hi! Chester is a wonderful place to study! Fantastic facilities, great pubs and clubs (when they reopen), the shopping is fantastic and it's close enough to other major cities if you want to go a bit further afield for activities!

Chester is a beautiful place to live, the centre is fantastic for shopping or even walks around the walls and along the river at night. You've got Hickory's smokehouse on the Dee with the park not far along and some great pubs to relax in. Plenty of nice restaurants to eat including the usual Nando's/McDonalds/Pizza Hut etc on a retail park walking distance from the centre.

Most cities have quietened down over the years, Chester did used to have a very busy nightlife but like anywhere, it calms down.

The great thing is, you have the train station and you can go straight to Manchester and be in Liverpool in approximately 40 minutes on a direct train. Which many people do anyway. Close to Manchester AND Liverpool AND Warrington, you won't struggle for night life. Even a taxi between several of you makes it worth it if you want to go further afield.

Having looked at the University information, there seems to be plenty of social clubs etc and student union life to get involved with. I am sure you will love it

Sports and societies are such a great way to make friends at University, so UoC and the Chester Students' Union are working hard to make sure that you still have a great experience getting involved this September! The specific activities that the societies run will depend on their theme (and there are lots! Check out the CSU’s website for the full list here) but every committee is being encouraged to think creatively and plan activities both online and in small socially distanced groups where possible.

As for sports, this year the CSU is introducing ‘Chester Rules’, which is a campaign to get active through customised non-contact sports and games that can be played and enjoyed with social distancing in mind. As well as the major sports, there will be personal training sessions, Couch to 5k and social walking groups so there’s something for everyone!

I also recommend you look into volunteering when you start University this is a great way to meet new people, give back to the community, get active (if you want!) and learn new skills, enhancing your CV. There are opportunities no matter what interests you have or how much time you can commit, so definitely keep an eye on the volunteering page when you’re enrolled! As well as physical volunteering opportunities, there are plenty of ways to get involved virtually. Student Volunteering :crown:
