Hi,

I just bought a BMW 3 Series, 2.5L engine. I am 21 years old, have held a full UK Licence for over 4 years. No points, one accident that was not my fault. And the cheapest quote is £1076 with a black box??
My current car is a Mazda 3 with a 1.6L engine, and it was £990.
I just dont get why its so expensive, is it the same with everyone else??

How much is the insurance on the BMW 325i without a black box?

And was the Mazda 3 insurance with a black box?

A BMW, 2.5L engine, accident on record, male, under 25, lives in a major city.

Gee.. I wonder why it's so expensive...

I know, it's rather subtle isn't it.. almost as if it's hiding in plain sight...

My mum has been driving for 30 years with over a decade of NCB and her insurance on a modern Toyota hatch back is £500. So it’s not that high considering your record isn’t perfect, you’re still young and relatively new, and you want to insure a big engine car

1. The companies need to make money.
2. You are a high risk age
3. You drive a relatively high risk car
4. Depends where you live

Have you tried sharing with parents ect. Sometimes it can be cheaper to have them on even if they only use it once a blue moon

There isn’t usually a significant price drop until you’re 25. Your age is still high risk.
Also, even though the accident wasn’t your fault, your insurance is still going to be moderately affected by it.
It could also be the age of the car causing it? If I were you I’d get a new car with a smaller engine, it will still be more than enough power.

As others have said, given age, claim, car type ect, £1000 even with a box sounds within expectations. :/

I'm 20 and my insurance was quite a bit less than that for a premium saloon, fully comphrensive and without a blackbox.
No NCD, but I did get my licence at 17.

Just don't go for a beemer, go for a Lexus or a Volvo, something that hasn't been crashed or nicked a lot

Under 25 - Check
RWD - Check
Luxury Saloon - Check
Have an accident on record - Check

If you live in anything other than a cheap insurance post code then it's gunna be expensive. You can get some decent luxury saloons/estates on FWD platforms which will be cheaper to insure.

Also - didn't you check the insurance before you bought the car?!
