I’m in year 10 and haven’t started revising yet AHAHHAHA sorry love that. Anyone who starts revising for GCSE’s in year 10 is actually a robot. Also if you do want all 9s (which is completely unnecessary, I know people who have offers from top universities and for nerdy courses like medicine with grades ranging between 5 and 9. Getting all 9s is something to be proud of (and definitely something that is very easy to show off about if you’re that kind of person) but you really don’t need it - in most cases, it won’t even put you at an advantage over other university applicants (coming from someone with 2 offers for medicine and hoping for another 2 more, and whose lowest grade was a C haha) Plus hardly anyone gets all 9s u genuinely have to be a super human.
Make notes as you go along. This is so useful because by making revision resources on a certain topic after each lesson, will definitely be helpful in year 11. Ensure you review them after a week or so aswell.

Print out your spec. This is specifically for subjects like science. It’s vital to know what you need to know. The spec can also be used as a checklist because even in cgp textbooks, they always have some waffle in it that you don’t need to learn at all.

Once you’ve learnt all the content on a certain topic and have reviewed it all from your revision resources and are confident. Then I suggest you to do practice papers specifically on that topic. They can be found everywhere (I suggest physics and maths tutor for sciences). That way, you can identify which parts of the topic you need to review.

Once alllll the content has been reviewed, do every past paper out there. However, only do this in year 11 when you’re near exams.

And finally just relax. GCSE’s are a breeze and with the right revision, all 9’s is kinda achievable but ensure you don’t get burnt out and pressure yourself to get all 9’s.

Hope I helped ☺️

I would make a flashcard on each subject from that day only with the key points from the lesson keep doing that eventually you’ll have a pile of notes waiting for you. Personally I wish I began revision in y10 but that’s just me

Year 10, just do your work, revise for your mocks and tests, and generally stay on top of your stuff. Make sure you’re identifying your weak areas, and for the love of god do NOT lose your class notes or tests. File it away and keep it safe. That stuff becomes invaluable in Year 11. Be making notes as you go along and you’ll be just fine.
Year 11 is where it kicks in. When you get to Year 11, you need to really stay on top of your revision materials; start/continue making Quizlets, flashcards, posters, and start doing past papers and studying exemplars. Lean on your teachers and always ask questions. Get them to mark your essays/past papers, or ask them for past papers if you are struggling to find any.
But you’re in Year 10 right now. Chill out! This is your last opportunity to have a laugh. High school only happens once, and it gets harder from here. Take it in your stride, and look after your mental health above all else.

(I’m doing my A Levels this year and got all 9s apart from Geography which I got an 8 in - and I’m no ‘superhuman’, just a product hard work and rather gratuitous grade boundaries in 2018 🙂)

Samee, I have my a levels this year and 😬. I miss the gcse days for sure

Let’s hope the Maths paper doesn’t get leaked this year! Or maybe it would be good if it did - seems like that’s the only way I’ll pass at this rate! 😂

Honestlyyy 😭 I took further maths as an AS for no reason at all in year 12 aswell and it has no relevance to the course I’m applying to etc. I definitely underestimated maths at a level

Both are very much essay based, yes. And both are studied at considerably more advanced standards, as is to be expected at A Levels.

Be aware that Geography is extremely case study heavy. You must be good at retaining key data for a number of case studies (I would say anywhere upwards of 30 case studies, as a minimum). You also must be good at writing under timed conditions because the exams are short for the amount you have to write. For Edexcel, Questions range in length from as little as 3 marks to as much as 24 marks. You will do a 50/50 split of human and physical. What you study at GCSE Geography is very much surface level content compared to A Levels, but there are many similarities, yes. Just in much more depth. Geography is gruelling, but very rewarding when you get it right. I‘be applied for BSc Geog at university.

Meanwhile, English Literature is just essay upon essay - which makes it very predictable. You will definitely develop your own style quickly and it’s easier to grasp the essay structure you will need to get top level answers. Also, in one of the papers you have your texts in the exam. For the other paper, you do not, so you will have to memorise quotes. At A Levels, you look at critical readings and context in a little more depth, but the bulk of it is just analysing the texts and committing those ideas to memory and then regurgitating them in the exam. As long as you can convince the examiner, you’re on your way. English Literature is by far the easier subject for me.
