1. a. Do I have to provide solutions for the problem occurring in both the IA & EE? - I was told by a student, that I should provide solutions for one of them, unfortunately I forgot which one.
In the IA you state a problem in the company and then you come up with a solution. for example.. should company X buy a new printer? That is the problem and you do research and state whether they should or shouldnt
You extended essay is not really about solving anything. You state a research question, undertake research, and in your conclusion you agree/disagree with your RQ, but say why (based on your research)
b. --> If I do provide solutions, do I have to evaluate them + then chose the best one and give reason for it?
for both IA and EE you have a section for analysis and evaluation. this is where you state everything, analyze and evaluate it.
2. a. If i do research e.g. on motivation theories, do i add it in the appendices then refer to it in the essay?
depends on your research. if it is quite vast then yes, stick in the appendices so it doesnt eat your word count and then use footnotes
b. --> Do I even research motivation theories etc. or expect the examiner to know them?
[Directed to the EE]
This depends on your research question. No points mentioning motivation theories if your EE is about investment apprasial
3. Should I add a SWOT Analysis, Boston matrix etc in my appendices? [directed to the EE]
Once again, it depends on your research question and also applies to the IA. If it is not relevant then there is no point
4. Should I even include an appendices in my IA?
Yes, appendices is very useful to stick stuff in that eats your word count. Almost all IAs require interviews (with someone in the company) and sometimes questionnaires. Stick these in the appendices and refer to them using footnotes
5. a. In my IA, do I only state:
what I'm researching, methodology, action plan, anticipated difficulties, key rationale, rationale of study & theoretical framework?
Or do I add in more e.g. Do I need to provide possible solutions?
all that you said usually comes all together in one section. after that usually comes the intro, main results & findings, analysis and the conclusion. in your conclusion you state your recommendations to the company (solution)
b. --> Do I need to state what I found & evaluate it?
For the IA you have a section called main results and findings. This is where you put everything you find. Followed is the analysis where you analyse everything
6. a. What do you mean by key rationale, rationale of study, theoretical framework?
rationale is your reason you are choosing this research question and theoretical framework is the theory you will use. for example, you have learned (in class) about boston matrix, product life cycle, etc etc. so just say that (if it is relevant)
b. --> What are the assessment details that I have to include? [Directed towards IA]
What do you mean?
7. a. What is the word count for the EE?
b. --> What's included and what's not?
Word count for IA is 1500 for SL (i think) and 2000 for HL (i know). the intro, research question, methodology, main results, analysis and conclusion are counted in the word count
For EE it is the standard 4000. i think for EE it is only the intro, main body and conclusion that counts
