A festival, a gaol which played host to Oscar Wilde, an abbey which has hosted more coronations than Westminster Abbey and a Victorian life sized replica of the Bayeaux Tapestry (just missing the rude bits on the battle excited horses).

The only war battle in what is now Greater London, the Battle of Barnet in 1471. The future King Richard III was on the winning side as the Yorkists won.
Brighton is a city, as someone I know who comes from there would tell you were you to call it a town.
For its history.
In the 14th Century it was a really big seaport which was important for trade in European countries at the time, it was also one of the first towns to be aerial bombed during WW1, a lot of the historic buildings are still there.

The Queen often visits the town on her trips to Sandringham, too.

My town is famous for having lots of old people and cats 😁
I can't say what my current town is famous for, as it will give away my location, but the town I grew up in was famous for being used in films and TV shows - most notably Hot Fuzz.
