Easy way to get a rough count is £1 for every 10 miles. That's for a small car driving mostly out of town (passing through the odd town).

This, though it's changed a bit with the way things have gone up, so rather than £2, maybe £2.10-20.

45 mpg means 45 miles for £1.10 x 4.54

which is 11 pence per mile.... so 20 x 11 = £2.20*
