I Failed my 2nd year at uni...

I failed my second year at uni and now I am very worried about what is going to happen. I passed 2 out of 6 modules but can only pass a total of 4 out of 6 with resits because certain ones were year long projects or the resit dates were earlier in the year.

The reason I failed is very simple. It was all my own fault. I didn't try and my attendence was fairly poor. I feel absolutely disgusted with myself.

I do actually take my education very seriously. I'm studying Business Studies and i recieved a grade A at GCSE and a Grade B at A-level. I passed my first year without problem. I think it would be a great shame if I got kicked out just because I had one bad year.

I have emailed my module leader and he says the university should let me resit the entire year but this would be the decision of the progression board. I have also arranged a meeting with my programme leader on Monday where I will explain everything, I will be very honest but will also show him how deeply disappointed I am with myself and how I will be a completely different student next year if I am allowed to resit.

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me on what the likely outcome of this will be?

Many thanks for reading this long topic.

(P.s Before anyone nastily replies that this is my own fault and that I don't deserve to be at uni... I fully understand this and I am disgusted with myself for my poor performance in the 2nd year.)
I know a few people that have been able to resit whole years so yeah that could be an option. Just make sure you put the effort in if you resit the year.
I have heard quite a few people repeating their 2nd years - so that might be the best option for you.

If I was you, maybe get in touch with someone from your University, ie Student advisor/or something similar and going from there.

All the best with whatever you decide to do.

Live with the consequences, and try and sort out this mess that you created by yourself.

Thank you very much for this reply. I am trying to sort this out by myself - Hence why I emailed my module leader and have arranged a meeting with my programme leader on monday. I was just asking for other students who may have found themselves in a situation similar to this to give me the benefit of their experience.

Why did you even bother to reply? Surely it was just a waste of your time since you had nothing constructive to say and evidently are not interested. I was merely asking for advice, is that really such a bad thing? We are on a forum after all.

The fact that you passed your first year comfortably should work in your favour, as the uni will know that you are capable.
The best thing to do is be completely honest, which seems to be what you're going to do, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

I had a similar situation in my A levels, where I didn't try one year and failed despite actually caring a lot about my education. Everyone deserves a second chance...so best of luck.

passing first year doesn't necessary mean that you'll be fine for the next 2 years ... cause .... the gap between 1st and 2nd year is huge ... things in 1st year is just something slightly higher than A-levels..

Of course they will let you resit : because they want your money.

When will people realise that most courses such as business are going to lead you absolutely no where. You will gain no advantage by going to university and working hard for 3 years, expecting to be put ahead of everyone else in your field, who didnt go to uni but amassed experience thus putting them ahead of you. Graduates have a catch 22 situation that they graduate but employers want experience. All you gain is a piece of paper and 15k+ worth of debt which will haunt you for most of your young working life.

I wonder how long you are planning on perpetuating this nonsense.

I also failed my 2nd year at uni...I was so upset but after speaking to my university I am sitting the 2 failed modules again this year. So as long as I work hard I will qualify just a year later than I should have.Speak to your university, they are very helpful and don't worry you can do it.
I need some help too! I was doing a foundation degree and failed my second year twice (first time for a family death) and i now want to transfer to a different uni, I've emailed other unis and they need my transcript, but i'm worried I wont be accepted, what do I do?

Hi @Nick_000, my daughter is in the same situation, she is not confident that she will pass, she didn't spend enough time and also she didn't do her study honestly, now she is in this situation, I know you are in this situation many years back, can you please share your experience and what you achieved lately. Thank you
