is the only way to transfer unis in 2nd year? or can I opt to transfer after the first term of first year?

You can apply to transfer, but it wont take place till next academic intake.
To try it within the same year would need the original uni to charge no fee and the transfer uni to be willing to accept you, maybe because they start later. Be complicated and unlikely, but might happen.
