Is there any good murder cases (UK) where media got involved and was a big influence when it came to the cases.
example Stephen Lawrence or Milly Dowler
Would be a big help if you could give me examples of good cases
The murder of Sarah Payne was a big one. It led to campaigning by News of The World for 'Sarah's Law'; so that parents could access the sex offender registry and find out if a registered sex offender lived in the same area. It ended up being enacted in 2011 where parents could inquire into someone's name.
The murder of James Bulger was also huge, a two-year-old was murdered by two ten-year-olds. It led to a lot of talk and debate about the age of criminal responsibility, and what sentence was morally right for a 10 year old murder convict. Went back to court last year to extend their anonymity orders, of which the media was heavily involved again.
