on TSR "Mediaeval" is generally used a term of abuse to refer to ideas, attitudes, technology etc which are not hip, woke, cool etc etc.
let us redress the balance by referring to the overwhelmingly positive aspects of the 1000 years between the Romans & the Renaissance.

A Hide is.....
A unit of measurement for assessment of tax, theoretically 120 acres, although it could vary between 40 and 240 acres. Equivalent to a carucate. By the late Anglo-Saxon, early Norman period, the hide was chiefly a unit for taxation, rather than an actual area of land.
By custom it was the land that could be cultivated by a plough team of eight oxen in one year, or rather during the annual ploughing season; or alternatively the amount of land required to support one peasant household. (Sometimes ten families.) Hides seem to have been larger in eastern England than in the west. In the Devonshire Domesday Book, it seemed to average about 64 acres., although many were as small as 48 acres.

Picnic at Agincourt Rock

it is 25 October 1415. some soft focus schoolgirls are celebrating St Crispin's Day with an al fresco feast just outside the charming village of Azincourt ( 12 miles (19 kilometres) north-west of Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise on the D71 road between Hesdin and Fruges ). as they nibble their candied eels one of the bolder girls clambers up a nearby rock. ( in the film she is played by Charlotte Gainsbourg as Ms Agutter is unwell ). She sees that there is some kind of military skirmish starting up on the other side of the village. A lot of arrows are being fired, and they seem to be getting closer.... what could possibly go wrong ?
