gsces are killing me
can I get good grades if I start practice papers in April or is that too late

Perhaps if you do a few now and then increase it at April, I would say you could definitely make it. 
I would say that if you start doing a few now and increase revision a little bit in April, you could certainly make it.

This was me in April last year, I managed to get mostly 8s and 9s in the end and I started (properly) revising about 2-2 and a half months before the exams started. If you start asap then it's definitely possible
