Hi,
I'm thinking of studying at the University of Cape town for my undergraduate degree, and I was wondering if anyone on here went there for their full undergrad degree and applied with British A levels, as I've got some questions.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I am originally from Cape Town, South Africa. I moved to the UK in high school for various reasons, safety and opportunities being a big factor. As much as I love Cape Town, it has become such a dangerous place to live. If you are in the UK, I would honestly suggest that you avoid going to university in South Africa. They currently have load shedding, which means that for hours every day, you are left without electricity- they were doing this when I moved 5 years ago and started doing it again a while ago. You don't have the same freedom as you can enjoy in the UK, you can't use public transport, you honestly grow up feeling like you are constantly looking over your shoulder. I couldn't believe the freedom and safety that the UK offered me, if I remained in SA, UCT was one of the Universities that I would have applied too and I have several friends that attend/attended the university. There was a period when one of my friends couldn't go to university as violent protests were blocking them from getting to the university.

Sorry that this is not the advice you asked for but I would have to warn anyone against going to South Africa for university if you can go elsewhere.
