A-Level Choices

Hi all,
I have my 2nd A-Level interview soon and whilst I have already chosen my subjects I am considering some shifts.
My original choices were:
Maths, Further Maths, Economics, Physics
However, I have heard a lot about the difficulty in Physics and wouldn't want that to affect my other subjects. Additionally, though physics broadens my subjects, I do not like it that much.
Instead, I have considering taking:
Maths, Further Maths, Economics AND ONE OF Spanish, Geography, History
The subject I like the most of those would be history but I hear Geography is the easiest. I also wouldn't mind taking Geography or Spanish as they are both some subjects I like to some extent (geography more so than Spanish).
My school also specialises in History and is equipped with some very good history teachers.

My ideal path would be Economics at LSE, UCL or KCL. I have also heard about an economic history course at LSE which I would probably go for if I took history considering we do the Cold War and I find history really fun.
My grades are 9s in all these subjects but it is a less secure 9 in history than in Geography which is quite strong.

Thank you for taking the time to read this! I hope you can provide me with some useful advice based on your experiences at A-Level

Well I take both History & Geography at a level, so I can help you in choosing between those 2 subjects. From your post, it is clear that you enjoy history much more than geography and so it would probably be better if you chose history, considering you'll most likely put in more effort into it as you already like it. Although it is difficult to know now... it is better to choose an A level subject that you like because you will be doing it for 2 years!

From my experience, I do like both subjects at A level and I can confirm that both subjects have a lot of content to learn. However, it has been easier to understand the concepts and how to structure my exam answers in geography than history. Nonetheless, I think that both of the subjects are good, but as I previously said, I think that history would be a better option for you, considering you enjoy it more and you are more fond of the department at your school.

Hope this helped!

Alrighty! Thank you. I just wanted to clarify one thing - overall, do you find geography easier? I cannot tell based on the variation of what people say

No problem! I would say that geography is slightly easier (but it is hard to say because everyone is different). I find that you can understand most of the content more easily because certain topics, like globalisation are more easy to grasp and can be self-explanatory in some cases.

I hope that isn't reflected in the grade boundaries :frown:
